Title: No Knot Unties Itself
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cleflink
Pairing: Sherlock/Lestrade/John
Length: 3800 words
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Light BDSM
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: John's good at untying knots. Lestrade finds out where he gets all the practice.

Reccer's comments: This fic makes excellent use of the trope that John gets kidnapped quite often to put Lestrade on the scent of Sherlock and John’s fondness for rope bondage. From there, the reader is taken along with Lestrade on an unexpected introduction to the sexy version of tied-up John Watson. Characterizations here are great: Sherlock is dismissive and quick-witted, Lestrade is matter-of-fact and game for anything, and John is turned on by danger. A very hot and enjoyable romp.

Title: An Impossible Shape: the Triangular Geometry of Flawed Hearts (Remix of the series Not Your Average Threesome 'Verse: John/Lestrade + Sherlock by thirdbird)
Author: alltoseek
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/Greg Lestrade/John Watson
Length: 2,145
Rating: Mature
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary: A triangle with shifting angles, its lines changing length as the energies between its three points waxed and waned… the three lines that made up the triangle, the vectors of energy all flowing down toward one point. One of the lines was weakened; it collapsed; the whole thing fell apart.

Lines, points, vectors and graphs… pages of notes with rough geometrical designs sketched out, notated in neat, minute handwriting… sketches and equations… numbers and angles and degrees, isosceles and scalene, sine and cosine and tangent… J=90, S=190, G=150. “It’s soothing to put it in those terms… it was at first. Until all the angles started going wrong. Now it’s nothing but a nightmare and a headache. It doesn’t work,” Sherlock said. “It’s an impossible shape.”

Reccer's comments: This is something a little unusual—a piece of found poetry. It’s literally a remix: phrases from the original stories have been taken out and then slotted together again to make something new and rather splendid. The poem is a sestina (I must admit this went right over my head initially) and I suppose it's also a kind of concrete poem. The piece is presented as a graphic image (the text is also posted separately after it), and there’s more to the poem than just the verses. Extra little lines are tucked in between. There are equations that act as comments on the verses; names are circled and lines come out from them to connect verses together. It all suggests Sherlock’s thought processes. I find the structure of the poem very satisfying—it’s like standing in the middle of a poem.

The poet says the piece will much more sense if you’re familiar with the series that’s been remixed, and that’s probably true. But when I first read the poem, I wasn’t terribly familiar with the stories—I’d read a couple of them but certainly couldn’t remember them in detail. I think the poem works as a moving piece of art even if you haven’t read the stories yet. This is an intelligent piece that also contains a lot of heart.

Title: Self Service
Author: Calico
Pairing: Lestrade/Sherlock/John
Length: 9500
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Gratuitous porn, remixed as a favour from another fandom's double penetration prompt.
Reccer's comments: The summary really doesn’t do this piece of filthy deliciousness justice. The premise (Lestrade is fantasizing about Sherlock and John) belies how well-characterized this is; Lestrade’s thought process is both amusing and fascinating, as Calico takes us through the twists and turns of how his fantasies work. As a bonus, there’s nuclear-level hot porn.

Title: Beginner’s Studies
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jain
Pairing: Sherlock/John/Lestrade
Length: 5k
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Ten life lessons that John and Lestrade teach Sherlock, and one that he teaches them. [Section headings taken from All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum]

Reccer's comments: I love a good threesome involving Sherlock/John/Lestrade in the BBC fandom and whilst pwp stories between them are fun, I think there’s an art to get the interactions and relationship balances right between each character. Adding Lestrade between Sherlock and John is complicated because of his hinted past with Sherlock and his few on screen appearances with John. Jain hits it straight on the head with this fic which is a series of realistic vignettes put together of how the three of them manage their everyday lives with the added complexity of a sexual relationship and how they develop because of it. It has stayed with me.

Title: The Top Secret Live Journal of Sherlock Holmes

Author: [livejournal.com profile] woe_in_a_hoodie

Pairing: John/Sherlock, John/Lestrade, Sherlock/Lestrade, John/Sherlock/Lestrade

Length: not sure... very long, though, thank goodness :)

Rating: R-NC-17 depending on the chapter

Warnings: Cursing everywhere, sexual content, 4chan makes an appearance, a tiny flash of incest due to Rule 34, drug use (nicotine patches), and 'Real People Slash' in that in this universe, Sherlock has an RPS fandom that follows his site and John's blog.
Notes: THIS FIC IS PURPOSEFULLY ABSURD. (Thought you ought to know.) Much love to Louise Rennison, author of the Confessions of Georgia Nicholson series of novels, which are the main inspiration for this work.

Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary: Sherlock has a Livejournal, which he updates constantly via his mobile phone and netbook. Everyone offline thinks that he's this stoic super-genius, when in reality he's a bonkers super-genius.

Reccer's comments: Warning. Don't read this fic in the presence of children or anybody who you don't want reading over your shoulder and asking, "WHAT on EARTH is so incredibly FUNNY?" Seriously. You don't want to have to explain cock spats to an 11 year old. Really, you don't. (For the record, I didn't mention cock spats to my 11 year old, in case you were worried. I did however have to stop reading the story b/c I couldn't stop laughing and he wasn't going to let that go without explanation.)

This is one of the funniest, zaniest, laugh-out-loud, cleverest stories I've read in fandom. It's cleverly done and Sherlock's voice is spot on and, at the same time, skewed just that tiny bit off so that he's absolutely, undoubtedly insane. In a good way.

When you need a pick me up, read this story. You'll laugh so hard, you'll cry.

Title: Triangulations
Author: [livejournal.com profile] thirdbird_fic
Pairing:John/Lestrade, with hints of John/Sherlock/Lestrade
Length: This part 9474, the other fics in the series are 8410 and 5696 respectively
Rating: R the first two parts PG the third
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: In which John and Lestrade pinch the bridges of their noses and sigh a lot, John is kidnapped for the fifty-seven-zillionth time, and Sherlock finally breaks. Sequel to On Lestrade's Flawed Heart, and Other Slightly Damaged Things The fic has also a sequel : The Adventure of the Dying Detective Inspector

Reccer's comments: The writer calls it “The not your average threesome series”. It’s the sweet, realistic development of the relationship between John and Lestrade, told from Lestrade’s point of view, focusing in the first part on John/Lestrade, in the second on the ways Sherlock establish himself as the unmovable object in their relationship and the third is a funny vignette on Lestrade and Sherlock getting into trouble when left unsupervised. I loved the face offs between Sherlock and Lestrade and calm, maternal John. It’s very sweet and terribly funny in parts.

Hi!
Just a few words on our tags and tagging your recs.

Tags are useful search tools for grouping the recs by categories: by pairing, genre, content, and sources for the stories or other fanworks.

We ask that reccers attach tags that are relevant to the works they rec. You don't have to add everything that applies-- for example, not a character tag for everyone who might appear in the story, or every theme or content. But if Molly has a significant cameo, say, that you think people searching for her might appreciate, then by all means list her in a tag. Likewise if you think this is the addiction story people should read, then use the content: addiction tag.

The required aspects to tag are pairing (if it applies), relationship genre (i.e., gen, slash, or het*), and verse (the source: ACD books, Sherlock BBC, Granada, etc.).

The easiest place to see all of the tags available is in this list of tags.

Tagging is enabled only for the author of the post and the mods. Only the mods can add new tags. We have a beginning list up now, anticipating likely categories and characters. We'll add more as recs are made, if characters and pairings, for example, aren't covered already. You can request a new tag to be added by commenting here or by contacting one of the mods. Keep in mind, again, that we'll be adding character tags as additional characters appear in recs.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been abbreviated as SH and JW in pairings and some other places (e.g., content: sick jw). Since this recs comm is open to all versions of Sherlock Holmes, it seemed the simplest way to identify the characters. Lestrade, Gregson, and Dimmock are listed as "inspector" following ACD book canon, and Moriarty is listed only once by his (their) surname alone. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is abbreviated throughout as ACD.

*We won't add a category for "slash-if-you-squint" or similar invitations for the reader to see subtext in a story. If the author hasn't labeled her work as slash, then it's genre: gen or genre: friendship.
