Title: The Curious Adventure of the Drs Watson
Author: ShinySherlock
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson (BBC and ACD)
Length: 40,883 words
Rating: Mature
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC, ACD Canon
Author's summary: What if ACD Watson and BBC Watson switched places . . .
“Imposter!” Hands clenching the lapels of John’s coat, Holmes shoved him anew.
“Yes!” John agreed, nodding, and then grimacing. “Sort of!”

Reccer's comments: I love casefics that use the case to advance the relationship, and this one does it for two couples: John/Sherlock and Holmes/Watson, all whilst solving both the original ACD case “The Hound of the Baskervilles“ and the mystery of how to return John and Watson to their respective centuries... or perhaps dimensions.

The treatment of the ACD case is fairly straightforward, although the characters are fleshed out and there are a couple of small twists that make it worth paying attention even if you know the original plot. The most important part of the story is really the human interactions, both between John and Sherlock and between John and Holmes (Watson is “stuck” with Sherlock, but we never get to see him directly), as the reality of their situation sinks in, causing each man to gain a new view on his own relationship.

The most charming part of the story for me was the use of ‘texting’, which in this case involves a magical (or perhaps highly technologically advanced) journal. There’s a bit of angst and a tiny smidgen of infidelity, but there’s a generous helping of fluff and swoon-inducing declarations to balance it all out in the end.

You and Me and the Moon by trickybonmot

Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 47,192 words
Rating: Mature
Warnings: None given
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock is bitten by a werewolf and has to find a way to cope with his new condition

Reccer's Comments: This is the first werewolf story I’d ever read. What hooked me immediately was following Sherlock’s stream-of-consciousness through his madness revealing his dangerous desire for John while warring with his need to keep him safe. John, of course, knows something is wrong. His disbelief, yet unwavering support and steely strength, offer the perfect counterpoint to Sherlock’s condition. The enjoyment here is watching their relationship grow despite these circumstances. An unusual case with government undertones, Harry offering romantic advice, an almost know-it all Mycroft, a creepy female scientist, and hot sex (yes!) are the many pleasures to be had in this fic. So settle down for a completely unrelated to Mother’s Day story and enjoy! (Disclosure: While I did have the opportunity to be a beta for some of the later chapters of this story, I was a follower and fan first. It was a privilege and fascinating to watch the writing process. Thank you trickybonmot!)

Title: Crossroads (Link goes to the first of seven chapters.)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] keep_counting
Pairing: Gen
Length: ~10.000 words in total
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: (temporary) character death
Verse: Sherlock BBC / Supernatural crossover or AU
Author's summary: Summon a demon by the crossroad, and get all your hearts desires. For a prize, of course.

Reccer's comments: I'm really happy this series has finished in March so I can rec it now. :-D

It is a very interesting crossover / AU with Supernatural - however it's not necessary to know that series in order to enjoy "Crossroads". In fact, I don't know Supernatural at all and I enjoyed it immensely! [livejournal.com profile] keep_counting has taken some of the mythology of that series and fitted it seamlessly into the Sherlock universe. There are demons and hellhounds and hunters of the supernatural. Most importantly there is trading of souls to resurrect dead loved ones. And every element fits perfectly with the Sherlock characters as we know them.

Each chapter of this series is devoted to one specific character to examine his part of the bigger story the whole series tells. As a reader you have to figure out small parts of the bigger picture one by one and re-evaluate all the clues after each chapter. It's really amazing how the different perspectives can give you a whole new image of what's actually going on. The series as a whole is pretty creepy and very engaging. You won't want to stop until you've reached the end! But what I especially loved is how [livejournal.com profile] keep_counting has managed to integrate parts from the Sherlock series (even only some bits of dialogue sometimes) and made them appear in a whole new light - and they still made perfect sense!

Hi!
Just a few words on our tags and tagging your recs.

Tags are useful search tools for grouping the recs by categories: by pairing, genre, content, and sources for the stories or other fanworks.

We ask that reccers attach tags that are relevant to the works they rec. You don't have to add everything that applies-- for example, not a character tag for everyone who might appear in the story, or every theme or content. But if Molly has a significant cameo, say, that you think people searching for her might appreciate, then by all means list her in a tag. Likewise if you think this is the addiction story people should read, then use the content: addiction tag.

The required aspects to tag are pairing (if it applies), relationship genre (i.e., gen, slash, or het*), and verse (the source: ACD books, Sherlock BBC, Granada, etc.).

The easiest place to see all of the tags available is in this list of tags.

Tagging is enabled only for the author of the post and the mods. Only the mods can add new tags. We have a beginning list up now, anticipating likely categories and characters. We'll add more as recs are made, if characters and pairings, for example, aren't covered already. You can request a new tag to be added by commenting here or by contacting one of the mods. Keep in mind, again, that we'll be adding character tags as additional characters appear in recs.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been abbreviated as SH and JW in pairings and some other places (e.g., content: sick jw). Since this recs comm is open to all versions of Sherlock Holmes, it seemed the simplest way to identify the characters. Lestrade, Gregson, and Dimmock are listed as "inspector" following ACD book canon, and Moriarty is listed only once by his (their) surname alone. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is abbreviated throughout as ACD.

*We won't add a category for "slash-if-you-squint" or similar invitations for the reader to see subtext in a story. If the author hasn't labeled her work as slash, then it's genre: gen or genre: friendship.
