Title: Unwind
Author: illwick
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 450K+
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Some very rough sex, including scenes gone awry; check individual tags
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: None provided by author, but this follows John and Sherlock post-series 4 as they expand their relationship to include BDSM practices.

Reccer's comments: On the surface, this looks like lots of filthy smut. And it is. But it's also so much more than that. The installments range from pure PWP to hurt/comfort, fluff, and casefics. Throughout, John and Sherlock deepen and reinforce their emotional connection through an exploration of a variety of kinks. They also work through issues from both their individual pasts and the trauma they've been through together. With very smart, sophisticated writing and consistently high emotional payoffs, this series definitely delivered far more than I expected.

The author is still adding to the series, but each installment can be read as a standalone.

Title: бонус (Bonus)
Author: [personal profile] gardnerhill
Pairing: None
Length: 396 words
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None apply
Verse: My Dearly Beloved Detective
Author's summary: Freedom can reside in a simple change of clothes.

Reccer's comments: My Dearly Beloved Detective has a female Holmes (Shirley) and a female Watson (Jane) -- one of only a tiny handful of Holmesian 'verses with this configuration. This focuses on Jane, and how she practices at presenting more traditionally male, along with musings on male presentation as protection in sexist Edwardian London.

Title: Watsonapped
Artist: Eliosu
Pairing: Sherlock/John or Gen
Length: 1 page
Rating: PG
Warnings: None (unless buffoon!Sherlock AU counts)
Verse: Crossover: Canon / Sherlock BBC / RDJ films (aka buffoon!Sherlock AU)
Author's summary:
all John Watson have been kidnapped. What would Sherlock Holmes-es do ?

Reccer's comments:
One more for the month!

Hilariously accurate little comic about how each Holmes would rescue his Watson from a kidnapping, and each Watson's response to that. The artist's style is sleek, smooth, and a pleasure to look at.

Title: The Things You Can't Outwit
Author: Speranza
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 3,000 words
Rating: E
Warnings: none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Not everything's brains, you know.

Reccer's comments: This fic was written for "More Joy Day" several years ago, and for me at least it always succeeds in bringing that extra burst of glee. Speranza is a wonderful author, and s/he invests this first time fic with extra doses of clever deductions, delicious dialogue, tender intimacy and welcome laughter. The first half of the fic shows John and Sherlock dealing with a very competent hired assassin while bickering with each other in their own inimitable style.

Smart, delightful, hot and sweet. Enjoy :)

Title: The Illusionist
Author: Author: [livejournal.com profile] peeveee
Pairing: Sherlock/Mycroft
Length: approx. 1,800 words
Rating: explicit
Warnings:none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock tries on Irene for size.

The scent of her perfume makes his mouth dry as he dabs it lightly on his wrists, his collarbone, careful to avoid the delicate pearls. He brings his arm up to his nose, inhaling deeply, his lips leaving traces of red where they touch the delicate skin of his wrist.

Reccer's comments: This fic has just everything one could want from a Holmescest fic. It's warm, it's tender, it's got Mycroft adoring, worshipping Sherlock's body, it's got Sherlock desperate for his brother's touch.
Add to that the delicious image of a string of pearls rolling against Sherlock's lovely, lovely throat.

God, I could just die from the perfection of his fic.

BTW. My last rec this month for tomorrow I'll be off on a holiday. I thoroughly enjoyed myself this month. So many great fics and art to rec and such lovely interactions with other people in the fandom. Thank you, mods, for running this comm and providing us with a positive place for some serious squee.

Title: The Maiden Voyage of the Tiresias
Author: astolat
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 2,800 words
Rating: E
Warnings: none
Verse: ACD books
Author's summary: Someone's getting taken for a ride.

Reccer's comments: This is an elegantly written, ultimately very tender first time fic between ACD Holmes and Watson, and given that it was written back in 2003 I'm guessing it may be new to some readers here. I love it for its beautiful language and for taking the time to set up an emotionally complicated game of one-upsmanship between Holmes and Watson, the full ramifications of which we do not understand until the end.

In Greek myths, Tiresias was a blind prophet, and I think this story manages to reflect that contradiction in both Holmes and Watson, both of whom see some things clearly while maintaining certain personal blind spots. Tiresias was also a man who was temporarily transformed into a woman. This is a story that touches on disguise and false assumptions and gender performance, and it centers on the realization that there was truth and love waiting where it was least expected.

Title: Pass, Repass, Glide Away
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lotesseflower (Lotesse on AO3)
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/Mycroft Holmes
Length: 5457
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Incest
Verse: ACD Books

Author's summary: It was a very good disguise, but having once observed it Mycroft could not fail to see with strangely doubled vision: at once the familiar stripling boy-body he'd watched from childhood and the enchanting odd lovely girl-form that Sherlock was wearing like a second skin.

Reccers Comments: Another elegant and stylized fic from Lotesse. This one deals with the young Sherlock and Mycroft and the strange pathways down which filial love can lead. Not explicit, rather, a disturbing glimpse into the Holmes brothers shared past.

Title: Equivalence
Author: [livejournal.com profile] introductory
Pairing: Anthea/Mycroft
Length: 2000 words
Rating: PG 13
Warnings: None I can think of
Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary: John Watson asks, is that your real name, and you pause for a second and say no.

Reccer's comments: I have always had a thing for sexually ambiguous fics and this fits perfectly in the category. It’s an in depth exploration of Anthea’s voice. Intriguing, sexy and mesmerizing.

Hi!
Just a few words on our tags and tagging your recs.

Tags are useful search tools for grouping the recs by categories: by pairing, genre, content, and sources for the stories or other fanworks.

We ask that reccers attach tags that are relevant to the works they rec. You don't have to add everything that applies-- for example, not a character tag for everyone who might appear in the story, or every theme or content. But if Molly has a significant cameo, say, that you think people searching for her might appreciate, then by all means list her in a tag. Likewise if you think this is the addiction story people should read, then use the content: addiction tag.

The required aspects to tag are pairing (if it applies), relationship genre (i.e., gen, slash, or het*), and verse (the source: ACD books, Sherlock BBC, Granada, etc.).

The easiest place to see all of the tags available is in this list of tags.

Tagging is enabled only for the author of the post and the mods. Only the mods can add new tags. We have a beginning list up now, anticipating likely categories and characters. We'll add more as recs are made, if characters and pairings, for example, aren't covered already. You can request a new tag to be added by commenting here or by contacting one of the mods. Keep in mind, again, that we'll be adding character tags as additional characters appear in recs.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been abbreviated as SH and JW in pairings and some other places (e.g., content: sick jw). Since this recs comm is open to all versions of Sherlock Holmes, it seemed the simplest way to identify the characters. Lestrade, Gregson, and Dimmock are listed as "inspector" following ACD book canon, and Moriarty is listed only once by his (their) surname alone. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is abbreviated throughout as ACD.

*We won't add a category for "slash-if-you-squint" or similar invitations for the reader to see subtext in a story. If the author hasn't labeled her work as slash, then it's genre: gen or genre: friendship.
