I'm going to suggest that you make it one rec per post, so that people can use tags to quickly find the kinds of stories they're interested in. (check out the tags at holmes finders for a good format for tags.)
Hmmmm - that is a really good idea actually. I know how frustrated I've been myself in the past with bad tagging. Ok, gonna go change the sign up post then. :)
I think I'm going to stick to the "signing up for a month" rule, because otherwise I won't be able to keep track of who's supposed to post when. I haven't yet given up hope on being an organized mod ;).
But I've just changed the rules to "Only one rec per post". So if you can get together at least 3 stories to rec you're good to sign up for a month. Hope that's ok.
Re: tags, it's probably a good idea to allow only mods to create tags for the comm to use, to make sure that you don't get multiple versions of the same thing.
When one's reccing month comes around, do you assign us specific days on which we're to post our recs, or do we just independently make our posts throughout the month, making sure that they're well spaced, etc.?
No, there aren't any specific days on which to post. You can make your rec posts whenever you'd like during your month, but spacing them out more or less evenly would be appreciated :).
Question, here: when reccing a series with several installments, can we mess up the template a bit, if the author, pairing and 'verse remain the same, for instance, and make a general reccer's comment at the end? repeating the author's name and 'ACD 'verse' six times just seems a little... silly. In other words, it would be like this:
Title (of the series): Author: Pairing: 'Verse:
And then a shorter template for each instalment, like so:
That's a good question... I'd say it depends on how you want to rec the art. If you want to just mention in your comments that there's art that goes along really well with the fic and link to it that's ok then. But if you can't do two different recs (with headers) in one post.
Hi, I just wanted to check if you would be interested in affiliating with the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Fanfic Community (http://agoshadows-fic.livejournal.com/).
Hi, I wanted to know if I still had to specifically add in the verse of a cameo that lasts less than 5 seconds on a vid? Or can I just mention that there're surprise characters from another verse?
Well, if it's not really important to the vid itself then you don't have to mention it. But if you think fans of the verse in question would appreciate finding it in the tags, then maybe you should add a one for it anyway. It's up to you :).
I'm new to the community and so far I love it! I spent the last days browsing through the recs and there are an amazing amount of them already. I basically went back, looking through al the different entries just wanted to let you know that I found this mod-post: http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/28927.html#cutid1. Based on the date of the entry 2020 I'm guessing it's suppossed to be somewhat more in the beginning? Any way I just wanted to let you know, that it's more in the middle of all the entries. (Is this making any sense to you?) If that's on purpose just ignore me...
Edit: Just found the link to the post on the left side of the journal. Upps-like I said I'm new here...
Hello! I'm up for reccing in February and I was wondering, I've just gone on a bit of a Molly Hooper-centric fic binge. Would it be okay if I rec'd a whole bunch of fics with Molly? Almost as a theme? I'd, naturally, stick to the format, but wondered if you preferred us to be more diverse.
Is the spreadsheet with past recs complete? I just can't believe Performance in a Leading Role by MadLori hasn't been recced yet (which I will remedy posthaste if true).
Well, we're only human, so it's possible we overlooked stuff in the spreadsheet or the delicious account. But since they both state that the fic in question hasn't been recced yet I'd say that's correct :). Go ahead!
Hey there! I have a question about your open rec policy for this weekend--I've compiled a rather long reclist, and I was wondering if I could do a separate posting for it on your comm this weekend, instead of just posting it on a thread for open Saturday. It's here (http://fitz-y.livejournal.com/60067.html). It doesn't conform to all the comm rules, in that it includes WIPs, which are clearly marked. Also I'm not sure how I would handle warnings, because many of the things you say to warn for are in some (but certainly not all) of the fics I recommend. On the post to this comm, I could certainly list in general the things which appear in the fics rec'ed in my reclist. Anyway, let me know what you think! Thank you!!
Hey, I've just had someone else ask me the same thing actually. But we decided against allowing people to link to rec lists in other places. The more recs the better of course, but we'd like for all of the recs to actually be here on the comm.
Since the Saturday rec post is a special deal kind of thing you could just c/p some (or all) of your recs into a comment there. Or several. The recs don't need to adhere to our usual guidelines.
I was wondering if it would be permissible to post a rec for 2 completed stories in a 3-part series. IOW, stories one and two in the series are complete, but the third story is a WIP. Or should this pair of recs be placed in the comments of this weekend's open rec post?
No, that's fine. As long as the fic(s) you're reccing are completed (and people aren't left hanging) you can rec a series that has more to come. Just don't post a rec for the third story. But you can mention it in the comments.
Can we add soulmates/soulbonding as a content tag? Between omega!verse and some other more gen fics, I'd say it's a well-known trope in the fandom. I might also write a rec for a soulmates AU this month.
Sorry to mention this again, but is the spreadsheet up to date? I notice that many of the recs I made last month are not on there. I am already making a list of new recs I'd like to make for next month (or open rec days), and I want to check whether they have been recced before. If you need help with keeping the spreadsheet updated I'd be happy to do so. :)
I posted on the 28th, but wondered if it would be OK for me to post 1-2 more recs (29th and/or 30th). I had planned to keep my recs spread out like I did earlier this month, but my post-op recovery took longer than planned (I see now I didn't post for 10 days).

Date: 2011-01-07 01:15 pm (UTC)It doesn't matter how old the stories are. If you think they ought to be recced then do so!
