I think the link to my rec of "Intersections" from two months ago has died or vanished, because now a second rec of the same piece has been posted by PennyPaperBrains. Only one rec is mentioned in the spreadsheet and the link to that rec is dead.
Here's my rec: http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/156724.html (http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/156724.html) Here's the second one: http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/175466.html (http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/175466.html)
Hi! Just wondering what the etiquette is on posting art that's been created as an illustration to one of my own stories. Is that allowed? Or is it too close to a self-rec? I can imagine that I'd rec this even if it hadn't been inspired by one of my stories, but I'm obviously a little biased and would understand if it's not allowed here. :)
Gah! I'm so sorry that we didn't reply to you on this. Somehow I feel like I did reply to it - probably I read it in my inbox, thought about the answer but then didn't actually post it. *facepalm*
Anyhow... as long as it's not your own work, that's fine!
I know things have been quiet on the open recs front in November, so I'm not surprised to not see an open recs post here. However, with the renewed activity created by Holmestice and other exchanges happening this month, I suspect you'll see more activity. I certainly would be happy to post WIPs and short recs in an Open Recs post, if you all are willing to continue the practice.
That was actually not so much a conscious decision not to have an open recs post this weekend, as it was both of us being busy and forgetting... It's up now! Thank you for the reminder! :)
Sorry to bother you again, but I noticed in the most recent regular rec that Victor Trevor does not have a character tag. Would you be able to create one?
Hi! I've just realized that I made a horrible mistake in one of my past entries (specifically this one (http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/101469.html)) and messed up on the tags. Is it possible for you to fix the tags so that "character: colonel moran" replaces "character: sebastian", and also add on "pairing: moriarty/sebastian moran"?
Hi! Catching up on posting recs for February, and I've a question about a specific fic, Paint by Numbers (http://archiveofourown.org/works/438341). It's listed on AO3 as a crossover and Henry Knight (BBC, Baskerville ep) plays a key role, but no other Sherlock characters appear. Would it be OK to rec that one, or no?
Well, it's definitely on the far end of the spectrum. But since the author qualifies it as a Sherlock crossover and I assume the reader should know who Henry Knight is, it's ok to rec.
I'd like to affiliate. We're also in need of help with promotion, if you'd be interested in promoting us here, if not I understand. sherlocked20n20 thanks!
I just posted a long rec for the series Guitar Man. I wasn't quite sure how to handle a series that has 32 installments, so I hope the way I adapted the standard template is OK. Let me know if I need to change anything. I only listed a few of the stories in the series - I could include links to all of them if you want me to.
Sorry about the late reply. I just checked it and it's fine they way you did it. However, what exactly do you mean by "rating:everyone"? Could you change that to an actual rating? Thanks.
I'm looking for a mystrade fic. It's a WIP. In the last installment Lestrade's daughter is kidnapped. Mycroft breaks things off because he feels he is a risk to Lestrade. If this is not the right place to ask this question, I apologize. I've been driving myself nuts trying to find it. Thanks!
Sorry, it's indeed not the right place. Like it says on the profile and in the rules, we're not a comm for searching for fics. But you can find links to the comms Sherlock-search and Holmes-finders in the list of our associates (on the profile).
1) Will the open recs always be on the last weekend of the month, or on a more irregular schedule? Just wondering if I should put up a reminder for myself on those weekends or not.
2) Would it be possible to make the open recs the entire weekend, rather than just on Sundays? I know usually one day or the other is busy and having both days as an option would be wonderful. Again, just a thought.
I want to have them on the same weekend every month, but I think in the middle might be better, since the reccers tend to get more active as the month draws to a close. I need to talk to Unovis, but we'll let you know.
If I had remembered on Saturday the post would have been up then ;). So, yeah, if we can manage to be better mods it'll be both days. Though... It does stay open, you can still make recs on Monday if you want.
Even a spoiler-phobe like myself is noticing that possibilities for Sherlock spoilers has grown with the beginning of filming. So I'm wondering if the mods have a policy regarding S3 spoilers? For example, with there a be a ban on S3-inspired works before the airing, or will such works be welcome, but all info must be placed behind a spoiler cut? Or will there be no restrictions?
I'm curious because I am deciding which comms will be "safe" for me to continue following, or if I'll need to temporarily (and with regret) unfriend until after I see S3. I'm not after pushing you in one direction, just wondering what your policy would be.
Regardless of what you decide I appreciate your hard work and am a big fan of this comm!
Thanks for the reminder! I'm a spoiler phobe myself, so there's definitely going to be a "spoilers belong behind cuts" policy. (And then I'm just going to hope nothing'll jump out at me when I look at comments...) I'm about to run out the door, but I'll make a post about it soon.
This is more of a heads-up than a question; I've only made two recs this month, but I can't make the third because my computer died last week. Kaput. I'm posting this from work, but I'm refraining from personal stuff as much as possible. Sorry.
Loved doing Recs for May. I actually had trouble picking twelve!
Just realised that my recs for, "Take Me To Bed (Or Lose Me Forever)" and "Say My Name" both should have had Genre: Het tagged on them and it's now too late for me to fix it. Could someone add it please?
Hello, I would like to do a series of recommendations for old (pre-1980) movies and TV shows about Holmes, but I'm unsure if that would be allowed? They are technically fan-works, though professionally made. They are not widely popular films/shows within the internet fandom at the moment, and I want to hopefully introduce more fans of "Sherlock" to some wonderful older productions, which provided inspiration for the newest incarnation of our favourite detective.
Please let me know if this would be a good fit for this comm.
Ha... that is a difficult one to answer. Yes, on the one hand, if not written by ACD every work can sort of be seen as an homage of a Sherlock fan to the original and could count as the work of a fan. But both these old movies/shows and new ones like Sherlock made other people money and as such are a whole different ball game than fan works only posted to AO3 or vimeo.
We've denied a similar request before, when it was about a Neil Gaiman story. To be honest, I personally sort of like the idea. But if we allowed this we'd have to remodel comm rules and those posts could not count as "normal" recs but would rather be primers for a relatively unknown "verse". Or something like it. I've pitted the idea to my co-mod but I really can't say right now what we're going to end up deciding. She tends to have good counter arguments ;).
I'd like to request two new pairing tags: irene adler/ofc, irene adler/omc for a fic I want to rec. Two possible alternatives: irene adler/oc or irene adler/various
Yikes, sorry about the late reply! I guess it's moot now, but for future reference: Yes, you can post whenever you want to. Theoretically you could post all your recs in one day. We just ask to space them out more or less evenly throughout the month if possible.
What are your thoughts on having a monthly round-up post with a quick listing of everything that's been recced in the month? Or would that be redundant? I was just thinking, sometimes I want to have a look over what all has been recced, without having to scroll through several pages.
I was wondering whether you permitted posts promoting fanworks exchanges. holmestice in this case. I don't think I've seen any such posts here and I know recc'ing is the raison d'etre of this comm, so I won't be dismayed if you say no.
And sorry again, because the answer is indeed no. If we went beyond rec posts for fanworks it'd be hard to draw the line. So we've decided not to do that.
Sorry, but for it to be eligible to be recced here the source material needs to state that it is part of the Sherlock Holmes universe. House might be similar or inspired by it -I have no idea - but it's still the House fandom...
We don't seem to have a "pairing: sh/victor trevor" tag? can I request one? (if it's there and I didn't see it ignore this, but could it be added to my last post? http://221b-recs.livejournal.com/289979.html )
