Title: Untitled
Author: Anonymous
Pairing: None Explict/Open to Interpretation
Length: ~6,300
Rating: M
Warning: Graphic Violence
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Summary: To torment Sherlock, Moriarty tortures Lestrade and forces the consulting detective to watch.
Reccer's Comments: I never learned who wrote this amazing gem of a character study, but I wish I had, so I could offer the proper praise s/he deserves. This fill at the kinkmeme was easy to miss and hasn't been posted elsewhere, to my knowledge, but it's "must read" material that rewards multiple readings. This has it all: ample proof of Lestrade's quiet, steady loyalty to Sherlock, Sherlock wrestling with his inexperience with "this caring lark" and his hatred of being helpless, a truly chilling Moriarty, a wonderfully BAMF!-but-human John who's there for both of his friends, and a lovely shout-out to ACD canon. The different kinds of courage that Sherlock, Lestrade, and John represent are beautifully illustrated. Come for the whumpage, but stay for the subtle characterisations and the restraint of the prose.

Excerpt:
The hard, clear fury thrumming under Sherlock's skin -- at Moriarty, at his own useless, restrained body, at Lestrade's stubborn refusal to see reason -- thickens and clots into something that feels like nausea.

Moriarty is studying Lestrade again, chewing on his lip as he decides where to burn him next. He leans forward, wavers. Darts his hand towards the other man's face and laughs softly, in the back of his throat, at Lestrade's flinch. Settles, finally, on the pale underside of Lestrade's arm, and holds the cigarette there while strained noises shake themselves loose from behind Lestrade's tightly compressed lips.

John, Sherlock thinks. John will come, and he will bring his gun.

Title: Off on the Wrong Foot
Author: [livejournal.com profile] unloyal_olio
Pairing: John/Sherlock, John/Moriarty (a little)
Length: ~31,000 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: some fairly violent scenes
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary:
John and Sherlock aren't flatmates. Instead, John gets a job in Bart's morgue, and Sherlock attempts to abscond with body parts. Which is just not on.
BAMF!John. Lots of male fighting. Hate sex. Cuddly love probably, too.

The sound of hysterical laughter bursts from doorway.
Both John and Sherlock turn to see Molly and a silver-haired man looking almost purple from the efforts of trying to hold their breaths.
Sherlock rolls his eyes before dramatically declaring, “Unhand me.”
John wants to. Especially now that they have an audience, but still. “Only if you promise to leave.”
“I require my foot.”
“You have two feet. That’s sufficient for most human beings."

Reccer's comments:
The last bit of this fic was posted just this week and my first reaction was: Oh, it's Christmas. Unloyal_Olio, has written a number of excellent multi-chapter stories, and this is one of the best so far. It's the kind of AU where just one aspect of canon is changed: in this case, John takes a job at the morgue with Molly. I love that John is depicted as hardworking and dedicated to his job--he doesn't just go all starry-eyed the minute Sherlock turns up. The characterization is brilliant here, especially John and Sherlock (well, they are the main focus!), but also the minor characters: Mycroft, in particular, kicks some serious butt.

This story is also a casefic, so I can't say much about the plot without giving it away...but Unloyal_Olio really knows their stuff. The fight scenes are exciting and action-packed, the deductions are fun and actually make sense, and the whole thing is handled with such a great sense of humor that the plot manages to be both thrilling and hilarious at the same time. Look forward to dazzling descriptions, snappy banter and a story that will have you glued to your computer screen until the very end. Warning: do not start reading before bed. You will not be able to stop. ^_^

Title: Gordian
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fresne
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 15,961 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary: On any given day, Sherlock might come out of the bathroom smelling like an Alpha on the hunt (Alpha #8) or an Omega in heat (Omega #9), a Beta brooding (Beta #3), or like no gender at all. The last one was his actual scent, which wasn't so much scentless as confusing. At least in an adult.

If Sherlock and John were the sort of people to read Mills and Boon novels, they could have said that what occurred was because destiny intervened and set two destined lovers in the one true pairings path.

It was the lasagne.

Reccer's comments: Yes, this is Omegaverse. But wait! Before you roll your eyes and click onward, this is Omegaverse wearing one of John's jumpers and slapping on three nicotine patches to solve relationship problems. It doesn't take itself all too seriously, but it's not crack. There's just the right amount of humour and fluff and crimes and hot, hot sex with just a pinch of angst. In this story, Sherlock keeps dismembered genitals in the fridge, Mr Hudson had a cock of steel, and John maintains the presence of mind to explain, in percentages and exact ccs, the process of Alpha/Omega heat and intercourse while he's knot-deep in the middle of it. You will want to read this for that scene alone. I'm not a fan of Omegaverse when it's used solely as a not-at-all-thinly disguised excuse for big cocks and dub-con, but this story has a heart (that may or may not have liquefied all over the microwave) and filled me with warm fuzzy squees.
