Title: Untitled
Author: Anonymous
Pairing: None Explict/Open to Interpretation
Length: ~6,300
Rating: M
Warning: Graphic Violence
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Summary: To torment Sherlock, Moriarty tortures Lestrade and forces the consulting detective to watch.
Reccer's Comments: I never learned who wrote this amazing gem of a character study, but I wish I had, so I could offer the proper praise s/he deserves. This fill at the kinkmeme was easy to miss and hasn't been posted elsewhere, to my knowledge, but it's "must read" material that rewards multiple readings. This has it all: ample proof of Lestrade's quiet, steady loyalty to Sherlock, Sherlock wrestling with his inexperience with "this caring lark" and his hatred of being helpless, a truly chilling Moriarty, a wonderfully BAMF!-but-human John who's there for both of his friends, and a lovely shout-out to ACD canon. The different kinds of courage that Sherlock, Lestrade, and John represent are beautifully illustrated. Come for the whumpage, but stay for the subtle characterisations and the restraint of the prose.
Excerpt:
The hard, clear fury thrumming under Sherlock's skin -- at Moriarty, at his own useless, restrained body, at Lestrade's stubborn refusal to see reason -- thickens and clots into something that feels like nausea.
Moriarty is studying Lestrade again, chewing on his lip as he decides where to burn him next. He leans forward, wavers. Darts his hand towards the other man's face and laughs softly, in the back of his throat, at Lestrade's flinch. Settles, finally, on the pale underside of Lestrade's arm, and holds the cigarette there while strained noises shake themselves loose from behind Lestrade's tightly compressed lips.
John, Sherlock thinks. John will come, and he will bring his gun.

I know! It's one of my favourites, and I'd love to read anything else that author's written.
