Welcome to our third Open Recs Weekend (slipping into the week)!
Because I failed to recognize Saturday--a hazard of working at home, alone--we're leaving the comm open to recs through Tuesday.

The community is now open for everyone to post recs. As usual, you can rec fic, art, vids and podfic, but please use our headers and make sure you've read the rules if you're new to reccing here, especially our tagging and warning guidelines.

Note: There's also a separate post where you can make shorter recs in the comments (including WIPs): weekly open recs post.

If you have any questions or comments post them here or PM one of the mods. Thank you!

Title: The Dreamer God and the Inbetweener (Series)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] oreganotea
Pairing: Gen., can be read as Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 3402 words
Rating: G
Verse: Sherlock BBC, AU
Author's summary: John is still an adrenaline junkie ex-army doctor. He is also an amnesiac Dreamer God. Sherlock is still the only consulting detective in the world. He is also an Inbetweener.

In An Infinite Multiverse: On a subconscious level, Sherlock knows what John is the moment he walks into the lab. On a conscious level, it takes two unforgivably long seconds for the information to sink in.

Close Call Aside: “Sherlock, I swear to God,” says John, voice more than a little strained (Sherlock has to bite his tongue to keep himself from laughing), “if we die here, I will kill you.”

The Reaper: One day at breakfast, Sherlock eats John’s soul.

Breathing Is Boring: “He’s going to get you killed one day. You know that, don’t you?” Sally asks John as they watch Sherlock gesticulating exasperatedly at Lestrade from the back of an ambulance. “Might even do it himself.”

Beginning is the End is the Beginning: One morning, Sherlock wakes up in John’s bed – although it might as well be their bed, as these days they share more often than not – to see John already awake and watching him with a fond smile, and Sherlock knows that it’s time.

Reccer's comments: A captivating little AU mini-series where John, and Sherlock are more than they appear. This series has great prose that results in an amazingly built universe, and rich characters in few words. Despite not being a "fluffy" story, it will definitely push all your warm-feeling buttons.

Title: Other People
Author: [livejournal.com profile] proxydialogue
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: ~9400 words
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's Summary: Return fic. It’s a long road from the afterlife back to John Watson.

Reccer's Comments: This fic is poetry. (Well, not literally; the author has a beautiful way with images, words, and metaphor, is what I want to say.) It is a post-Reichenbach/hiatus/return story that focuses mainly on Sherlock's point of view: where he went, what he did, and how he felt. It is about two very broken men who become even more broken by being apart, and the fact that even getting back together will not fix them. The author obviously says it much better than I could, as in this excerpt:

Instead of coming back together as two men remade, they were struggling back together as two burn victims crawling out of opposite sides of the same fire. And instead of finding their first breaths of fresh air, they were grateful to choke down even the ash and the smoke. Instead of safe and painless at last, they were feeling the slow regrowth of the nerves in their skin, and it hurt like hell.

It's billed as a hurt/comfort fic, but it is really a feel-good story in the end. The emotions are so well-depicted that my heart was beating right along with John's and my tears were falling right along with Sherlock's. It's really much more than just a narrative about John and Sherlock, though. It also has something to say about larger themes like identity, the subjectiveness of reality, faith, sanity, secrets, and truth. You don't have to be a literary sort of person to enjoy this fic at all, though. There's also clever dialogue, exotic destinations, and of course hot man-sex. A wonderful piece from a very talented author.
