This fic by Castiron on AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/264907) takes what ought to be a crack prompt about Sherlock relieving UST and produces a surprisingly tender fic while still keeping Sherlock and Anderson IC.

I've been enjoying a WIP recently by [livejournal.com profile] americanjedi/thursdayplaid called, 'The Wee Doctor.' So far there are 13 short chapters, and the author is updating regularly.

John ends up in a London where John Watson never existed, with all of his memories and skills intact, but in the body of an eight-year old boy. Of course, being John, he does his best to use his skills as a doctor to help anyone he can, and finds that saving Sherlock from himself is still a full-time job.

I'm not generally a fan of kid-fic, but the author is exploring some interesting aspects of John, Sherlock, and even Mycroft's character here. The deductions that the Holmes brothers gradually make about this impossible little boy reveal quite a bit about their hopes and fears. You can find the story on LJ (http://americanjedi.livejournal.com/tag/wee%20doctor) (The author hasn't linked them, so you'll need to use the tag to follow the chapters.) or subscribe to it on FF.net (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7180513/1/The_bWee_b_bDoctor_b).

I would LOVE to read your favourite fics involving Sherlock doing drugs, preferably after John moved in with him. Maybe he's relapsing, or just looking for the occasional high? Any Study in Cocaine is welcome :)

One that I haven't read, but which has been rec'd to me by someone whose taste I trust is eldritchhorror's Cold Song series (http://eldritchhorrors.livejournal.com/57410.html). John tells Sherlock he must give up drugs. Apparently the first story has a thoughtful, compelling depiction of addiction. It develops later in the series into an S/J pairing in a BDSM relationship.

Actually this has been rec'd to me too, and so far I hesitated because of the nature of the pairing.. ;) It's not really my cuppa. But if people are so excited about it, maybe I'll consider it anyway! Thank you!

It's a WIP, but the author is working several chapters ahead, so posting should be regular.

Title: "The Violet Hour" On AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/384405/chapters/629311)
Author: breathedout
Word Count: 26,582 so far (7/12 chapters posted)
Rating: E/NC-17
Author's Warnings: Fair warning: This is, at its heart, a John/Sherlock romance. That said, there is also a LOT of original plot and MANY original characters, some of whom are a) based on real historical people; b) involved in sex scenes, and/or c) female. If any of that will bother you, give it a pass. Also, it's currently a WIP, though mostly written.
Author's summary: In 1920, two years after the end of the Great War, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson investigate two disappearances, eerily similar but separated by 80 years. In the process, they make enemies (and friends) of Bloomsbury intellectuals; travel to Sussex; deal with the aftermath of John's past in the trenches; read Victorian pornography; drink copious amounts of tea; and, of course, fall in love.

My comments: This is a staggeringly brilliant WIP. The author throws in literary references like candy, the plot is intriguing, the sex is HOMG hot. There's discussion of the sexual politics of the time, and lots of fascinating intellectual arguments between Sherlock and the likes of Maynard Keynes and Lytton Strachey.

GO READ THIS. RIGHT NOW.

[livejournal.com profile] lotherington's excellent and moving WWII au series Long Ago and Far Away (http://lotherington.livejournal.com/10755.html#cutid1) integrates John and Sherlock into 1930s-1940s London. John and Sherlock meet and and strike sparks immediately, but building a relationship against the backdrop of a homophobic society is challenging. Lotherington's characterization and dialogue is wonderful. She clearly knows the period well and includes many details that make it clear the past is indeed a foreign country, even if certain aspects are still familiar,
