Title: When the War Fires Fade
Author: [livejournal.com profile] snowdarkred
Pairing: Gen
Length: ~7000
Author's summary: The Wars turned the world on its head, and in that unrivaled chaos, John Watson was born with a rare gift. Sherlock, naturally, was born with an even rarer one. Years after the Wars end and the Others return to their dark lairs, two men are introduced by a well-meaning mutual acquaintance. And their world is upturned yet again.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: magic!AU, violence, swearing, vampires that don't sparkle and are actually supposed to be somewhat scary, gratuitous descriptions
Verse: Sherlock BBC/Sunshine
Reccer's comments: This is an AU based on the book "Sunshine" by Robin McKinley, which I have not yet read...but because of this fic, I have checked it out of my library. (Though, honestly, knowledge of the book is not required.) In a fandom full of excellent crossovers and AUs, this is one of my favorites. And yes, the vampires in this story are not the friendly kind. Best of all, this fic includes one of those moments (near the end) that make you want to cheer...and beg for a sequel (of which there are rumours, btw.)

Title: Dry
Music Title & Artist: Love Is Like a Bottle of Gin, by The Magnetic Fields
Vidder: [personal profile] lim; [livejournal.com profile] lim
Characters: Sherlock, John
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Link: Dry (DW)
Reccer's Comments:
This was the first brilliant vid I saw for the show, and it bowled me over -- though the way I read it may not be the most popular interpretation. I think it's safe to say that it deals with ideas of dependency and love, primarily for John Watson. I saw it as the substitution of one crutch for another, until I read raves about its depiction of salvation through love. It's a revelation for the viewer, no matter how you interpret it.

It's also a brilliant, and visually complementary, manipulation of the source. Lim has commented in several places about the color palette and motifs for Sherlock, and here specifically about making the vid: Notes: Dry (on DW).

Just a quick mod-post to let you know that the templates for posting both "fic/art" and "vid" recs are now also up on the community profile. So if you want to you can always copy/paste them from there.

Title: It Feels Like Home When I'm With You
Author: [livejournal.com profile] etothepii
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: ~14000
Author's summary: John still gets nightmares about Afghanistan. That's the worst part of it all, he thinks -- he still has dreams about sand and drowning to death in his own blood. But they're more memory than nightmare.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Character Death
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Reccer's comments: I love this story to slightly unnatural degrees I think. Sherlock moves into 221B which is already inhabited by John. Only - John's been killed in Afghanistan... Ghost!John is such an intriguing and wonderful character and the developing friendship/relationship between him and Sherlock is masterfully done! This could have turned out incredibly cheesy, but the author manages to make it realistic and slightly heart-wrenching instead. One of those stories that I wish would go on forever...
