1970s Appalachia AU. Sounds like crack, but most definitely is not. Casefic that incorporates a great deal of the regional music, including country and western, traditional ballads (one of which inspired the name and part of the story), and gospel. Very happily avoids the stereotypes of the region and yet keeps the characters close to canon. S/J
