The Thing Is (56720 words) by faviconTSylvestris
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: The problem with living with Sherlock, John thought, was that you never, never, ever knew the significance of anything. Like your flatmate's nose buried in your hair. Whilst you're in bed.

More than it looks like at first. John in particular shows great versatility.

Can I be the Alpha? (4647 words) by faviconTrista_zevkia
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Did you ever wonder where the Omegaverse came from? So does John. Sherlock is strangely silent on the subject...

Hilarious and well-done. It helps greatly to be familiar with the Omegaverse trope first.

Shelter (21163 words) by faviconliriodendron
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: A portrait of a friendship moving into a romance, and of trying to figure out how hold on when everything you have begins to fall apart. Drug use/unhealthy relationships, marking as possible dubious consent to be safe. Contains case-related violence and (trigger warning!) depictions of self-harm.

A house in the country (20072 words) by faviconPlainJane
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade
Summary: With new "real rape" laws in place, every unbonded omega is at risk, including Sherlock Holmes. He needs someone to help protect him and hide his true nature, but John Watson may be more of a problem than a solution.

Omegaverse.

End of the Story (54029 words) by faviconkres
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Post-Reichenbach. The return, the fallout, the pieces you pick up.

Wonderfully feel-filled post-Reichenbach angstfest.

Be Here Now (94377 words) by faviconTodesfuge
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: John Watson was already fighting demons when he and Sherlock met. With Sherlock's suicide, it all comes flooding back, forcing Sherlock to intervene before he's solved the persistent riddles of Jim Moriarty and his game. Together they find that something darker lurks behind Moriarty, forcing Sherlock, John, and Irene Adler into an even deadlier game with a much more dangerous foe. Begins six months after the events of The Reichenbach Fall.

Excellent story, John and Irene join up with Sherlock to clean up after Reichenbach.

Plus one that wouldn't fit in the first comment

Plus one WIP that I squeed so hard over when I saw it start up this morning! This is Part 3 of The Good Morrow, and it won't make sense if you haven't read the first two parts.

as many names as snow by favicongreywash
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Twenty-six days, twelve characters, eight or ten storylines, four romances, three cities, two sets of rings, and a spare hot shag: a largely areligious advent calendar set in the same universe as and after "the sensation of falling as you just hit sleep" and "in deed accomplish our designs".

Thanks! I forgot it was Saturday as well as the first.

I'll play -- [livejournal.com profile] holmestice entries are being posted, a few at a time.
Build me another and call it Jerusalem (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/179981.html), author redacted, is quite good if you're a fan of awkward sex or virgins. Sherlock/John, rather long.
Works and Days, (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/180957.html#comments) Lestrade-centric, is brilliant in its little curves and touches and twists, before and after Sherlock's fall and return.

Holmestice has already been mentioned, so I'll just add that the 221b_advent fanworks are going up now as well.

The Bone Fiddle (http://vulgarweed.livejournal.com/361259.html) by [livejournal.com profile] htebazytook and [livejournal.com profile] vulgarweed
1970s Appalachia AU. Sounds like crack, but most definitely is not. Casefic that incorporates a great deal of the regional music, including country and western, traditional ballads (one of which inspired the name and part of the story), and gospel. Very happily avoids the stereotypes of the region and yet keeps the characters close to canon. S/J

Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary:

"What could I want so desperately that would make me sell my soul? What could possibly compel me to surrender the part of myself that makes me who I am: the source of my magic, my self-control, everything?"

Summary:

"Sherlock Holmes had been through twenty sleeping cycles – sixty earth days – before the aliens brought him a mate." Alternate universe. Almost literally.
Sci-Fi AU Crack. Featuring sentient Lava Lamps.

Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary:

A Medieval AU Johnlock romance. John Watson is a captive Highlander forced to heal the Gaaldinian Prince from a strange malady. In return for his pains, John is forced into the service of the Prince, known only as Monseigneur.

Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary:

‘You—,’ John began, tapping Sherlock’s chest with his index finger, ‘—should have told me what you were doing. At the very least.’ He left his hand there for an instant, between her breasts, before pulling it back suddenly as if he had touched something hot and unknown.

‘Yes--yes,’ Sherlock said, stumbling over the simplest of answers before she curled her hand around John’s and pulled his hand close to her chest.

For professorfangirl's prompt, 'Satisfaction without ejaculation.'
Fem!Sherlock/John post-Reichenbach. Part of the Breaking the Sex Mold Challenge.
Opens up some of the power relations questions when you deal with a female Sherlock and a male John.

Rating: Not Rated
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Summary: We don't dig up the bones of old loves; no, rather we...well we can't resurrect what wasn't dead, can we? If you said, though, *dig up these bones*, I would, he would. Are you an old love? No, never; never, no.

Rating: Not Rated
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Summary:

"You,” John says, and blinks.
A nano-geography of John.

Both of these are beautiful and densely packed explorations of the marriage or art and science. S/J, but the exact nature of their relationship is left to the imagination.

The Baker Street Series (http://archiveofourown.org/series/16197) by Magicbunni (http://archiveofourown.org/users/magicbunni/)
Rating: gen with epic bromance

A series of four long, exciting, intricately plotted, witty casefics with fantastic character development and insights. While they follow in order, each can be read alone. In addition to wonderful depictions of Sherlock and John the stories are enriched by several fully-fleshed female characters.

Magicbunni is one of my favorite Sherlock authors and one of the few I read over and over.

The Ninth Muse (43421 word) - a murder in the heart of Scotland Yard leaves Sherlock and John out in the cold, not knowing where they are safe or who they can trust. An injured Sherlock refuses to quit. Unwillingly, John and Sarah try to keep him alive and upright until the case is solved. It starts a little slowly, but stay with it. You won't be disappointed.

The Photography Club (52586 words) - a mystery involving a missing CIA mole, a young woman genius who rivals Sherlock, and some sinister goings on that may involve Mycroft challenge Sherlock and John.

The Burning Question (45966 words) - a series of devastating fires, a mysterious woman fleeing the Russian mafia, and a fabulous gem lead Sherlock and John on a convoluted chase through London. Plus we meet Sir Lockton Holmes, Sherlock's father, and if THAT isn't a revelation!

The Double Walker (57549 words) - Sherlock's boredom is reaching ever more grandiose heights when a missing corpse, and a crime scene so bloody it's impossible the victim could survive turns up to keep him occupied. But this victim is no stranger. Can Sherlock and John interpret the three words, left as clues, in time to catch the culprit?

As a bonus there is some lovely art.

The first two say specifically they are non-slash. Do the later stories develop any pairings? Or is it strictly gen, friendship only?

Date: 2012-12-03 09:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] the-hobbet.livejournal.com
They are all gen, but a good story is a good story and friendships can be just as strong and devoted as a romance. The stories contain the same slashy undertones as the BBC series so you can read it however you like.

I think it is sad when people think of friendship as lesser than romance. I consider them equal, if different. Great friendships are love too. They are intense, intimate, and often last longer than romances.

I apologize if you weren't asking in order to avoid non-slash stories, but if you love Sherlock and John I think you will love these stories. You'll like Sarah too.

Oh, I greatly enjoy the gen fics in this fandom as well. In fact, I've even recced some. ;) I was just wondering, as the headers for the first two were specific about being non-slash but the others weren't. I just wanted to know what to be prepared for. Thank you!
