Reccer's comments: What an incredibly inventive and gripping story! This is a complete AU in which Sherlock, John, and Greg are members of a Swiss mountain rescue team. Told in the format of a documentary with an extremely skillful film editor, the focus is nominally on the rescues and life on the mountain, but more tellingly digs into the private lives of the team members. The documentary format is pure genius with juxtaposed scenes, quick-paced montages and theatrical cuts that create fantastic tension and drama while preserving the mystery and building up an emotional reveal that literally had me grinning with tears of joy.
The rating is for language and possibly some depictions of injuries, no sex.
Excerpt:
Suddenly, a piercing crack rips through the ice, and Sherlock grunts as he falls, tumbling deeper into the crevasse and buried by a massive wall of ice and snow. The rumble of ice is deafening for three full seconds.
When the avalanche stops moving, the go-pro is completely buried in snow. All we can see is grey and white. Sherlock gasps for breath, struggling to move.
Distantly, up above through the meters-thick ice, a single voice can be heard echoing down into the caved-in crevasse.
It is the voice from the man who had been lowered from the helicopter before.
The voice screams: “Sherlock!”
Holmes, faintly, just before the go-pro cuts out: “John. . .”
