Title: Let's Make A Bed Out In The Rain
Author:
theimprobable1
Pairing: Sherlock/John, Past John/Mary
Length: ~18,000
Rating: R
Warnings: Vague sexytimes
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: John is devastated after his long-term girlfriend leaves him. Sherlock helps him through it.
Reccer's comments: I can't rave enough about this fic. It's narrative is absolutely gorgeous. Considering the given prompt that prepetuated this fic it could have very easily been mishandled. Thankfully it was taken up by someone who really has a feel not only for the characters involved, but also for a difficult subject. John's break up and subsequent recovery are not quickly glossed over but are instead dealt with in a very realistic fashion.
There is also the matter of how well the writer manages to write a Sherlock that is very vulnerable and human and yet still very Sherlock. A great deal of the story hinges on his characterization considering most of the story comes from his viewpoint and
theimprobable1 nails it perfectly. Not to mention the writing for John - anyone who's had the misfortune of suffering a bad break up can easily empathize with him.
Again, I cannot say enough good things about this story. It resonated with me in a way I didn't think it was possible and, best of all, had a wholly satisfying conclusion.
