Art recs: the Holmes brothers rivalry
Jul. 10th, 2011 07:43 pmToday I bring you two recs from the larger-than-you’d-think subgenre of humorous art featuring the rivalry between the Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes.
Title: Boxing Considerably Cleverer Than You
Artist
redscharlach
Pairing: Gen
Length: n/a
Rating: PG for violence
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Artist's summary: And now, a small dose of fan art frivolity. Someone over at
sherlockbbc expressed a wish to see "fisticuffs between the Holmes brothers" and this thing popped out of my brain. So please lean out of the nearest open window and witness the startling Sherlockian spectacle that occurs WHEN BROTHERS BUTT HEADS!
Reccer's comments: This stylish retro-esque poster, advertising a boxing match between the Holmes brothers, is clever enough that each new piece of the text I read had me giggling.
Title: Gentlemen Will Walk
Artist: viestelar
Pairing: Gen
Length: n/a
Rating: PG for violence
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Artist's summary: Gentlemen Will Walk... but never run. Mycroft hates running.
Okay, I just needed an excuse to draw MORE Sherlock and Mycroft. And the Mighty Umbrella of Doom.
Reccer's comments: This beautifully drawn comic features not only splendid likenesses, but also terrific characterization, as Sherlock and Mycroft find themselves in a spot of danger together. Also, please note the pattern of Mycroft’s tie. Hilarious, and adorable.

Date: 2011-07-11 05:22 pm (UTC)Also, it might be cool to think about allowing a themed rec post once/month, either by each reccer, or a combined one by the month's reccers. I know I enjoy pointing out similarities and contrasts along a certain theme/pairing/genre/trope as part of a rec. No idea about the logistics of that, just thought I'd pass along the idea.

Date: 2011-07-11 07:55 pm (UTC)A themed rec post is a good idea! We (the mods) did discuss having some themed rec posts (or themed months or something) once. But then the idea got dropped again to see how things went with the normal reccing first. But I'll make sure to discuss it with them again. Maybe next month though, since I'm pretty busy atm...

Date: 2011-07-11 08:46 am (UTC)The pattern of Mycroft's tie in the short b&w comic is actually a tie she wears in The Great Game... go check it out and pay close attention to it, it has tiny umbrellas on it, it's fantastic! XD
