Reccer's comments: This is possibly the most unusual Holmes and Watson AU I’ve ever read—their first meeting retold as a Polynesian folk tale. And it absolutely works. A wounded warrior trying to make his home by boat hears a shaman in the water calling for help. They save each other, become bound together and go and fight demons together.

I can’t pretend to be an expert but the language and tone of the story seem to perfectly suggest the style of a folk tale—the author never putting a foot wrong. I was particularly taken with the way canon cases have been transformed into demons—the descriptions both horrible and beautiful.

And I suppose, in the end, this story is a moving and universal study of the relationship between every Holmes and Watson.
