Reccer's comments: I hardly ever read ACD fic, but I made an exception for this one, and I'm glad I did.  The writing is just as exquisite as the rest of candle_beck's work, and the counterpoint of the sadness of the case and the growing happiness in Holmes and Watson's personal lives provides a sort of emotional chiaroscuro that throws everything into sharp relief.  The slow build is masterfully paced, the imagery is striking, and the ending is joyful.

I love ACD fic but I rarely read Ritchie fic, so I'm glad you recc'd this one! I love candle_beck's BBC fic and it's past time I tried more of their work :)

I'm so glad you liked it! I think this is actually the first Ritchie fic I've read, and I usually only read ACD if it's an author I really like. 'Space Travel' was so good that I branched out and read all their other Holmes fics. I always appreciate prose that makes me feel like I'm getting taken to writing school. :)
