Title: The Lizzy Verse
Author: Anon...
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: Not stated
Rating: Not stated, ~PG13
Warnings: -
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Prompt: Teenage son/daughter of Sherlock and John [...] dealing with his/her parents' shenanigans or his/her interaction or views of them.
Reccer's comments:
So. Kidfic. I'm usually not a particular fan of this genre myself, but I followed a rec to this one and I am SO glad I did! It boggles my mind how a one shot based on a rather cracky prompt developed into something this epic. And I mean epic. I was still thinking about it long after I finished, and with the amount of fic I read, that's saying something.
Not only does the author write pitch-perfect character voices, he/she actually got me to care about this kid (which imo is often the inherent problem with kidfic) AND gave the whole 'verse an overall storyline that had me biting my nails. Moriarty is absolutely chilling!
The only downside is that the last fic has, as of yet, not been posted. The existing stories are all complete, but the last (missing) one was hinted at a lot, so it definitely feels unfinished.
I hope the author will maybe get back to it at some point...
For those of you who are still making a "Kidfic? :/" face, have some quotes from different stories of the verse:
John had done the safe sex talk (in excruciating medical detail). John had done the no drugs talk (Sherlock had wanted to do it, but John didn’t think ‘no cocaine unless you’re really, really bored, and Marijuana doesn’t really count anyway’ constituted a decent anti-drugs talk).
---
She made a mental note to have a quiet word with her Uncle Mycroft (this could usually be arranged by picking up a pay phone and saying ‘I know you can hear me’ repeatedly, a strategy Sherlock had taught her).
---
He pulls [the baby] closer, holding it like he has seen in the diagrams and he begins to pace again, glancing down occasionally to check that he hasn’t broken it. Sherlock’s not sure what John would do if he woke up to find that Sherlock broke the baby, but it would probably be something permanent, and it might involve his Browning.
---
“I,” Harry Watson announces as she walks through the door, “am an Aunt. This calls for champagne.”
“Are we celebrating the abrupt disruption of our lives or the brutal murder of the child’s parents?” Sherlock asks from where he is lying on the sofa, eyes closed, hands steepled, his usual ‘thinking’ pose.
Links to the stories in the order they were written in:
Meet The Family
Written for the original prompt.
For Want of a Babysitter
Lizzy at a crime scene. According to the author: "...not quite as light-hearted as the previous one"
5 Conversations, 7 Meetings and Several Unexpected Gifts
"...the story of how they got her... sort of."
Things My Father Taught Me
"...the story of her abduction."
Not Quite the Usual Way
"They weren't together in the beginning and they were together at the end, but nothing really changed along the way."
10 Birthdays
"...10 birthdays in Lizzy's life. Starting with the infamous 18th and working backwards."
Blowing Out the Candles
"When Lizzy turns seven they try to give her a birthday party."
Thrill of the Chase
"...some Lizzy-verse fic without Lizzy (not sure how that works) to tide you over. Mycroft, Sherlock and Moriarty learning how to play well with others."
Making Time
"Five ways Mycroft was an awesome uncle."
