Title: Tamarind Sodas and Mango Slices with Tabasco
Author: beanarie
Pairing: Gen
Length: 2430
Rating: T
Warnings: N/A
Verse: Elementary
Author's summary: Joan gets pregnant her senior year of high school and the father doesn't stick around. But, the same as she did with her dad's affair, getting into Columbia, and being Sherlock Holmes's best friend, she deals.
Reccer's comments: Marvelous high school AU that doubles as a moving portrait of a young woman living with the decision she made, counting the months until there's nothing left to count any more and figuring out how to keep going, after. Not with regret but still buffeted by emotion and hormones and difficult transitions. Sherlock is loyal, needy, observant, and even occasionally tactful (if under duress) to keep some of those observations to himself. Joan's experience isn't tragic by any means. It's difficult and challenging, but she has the support of her parents as well as the confidence to accept her own pace and method of healing.
