We need volunteers to make recs for March! The community is open to recs for old and new completed fic, vids, art, podfic, and meta, for any version of Sherlock Holmes. All are invited to share, though you must be a member of the comm to make posts. We ask that reccers make between four and twelve recs for the month, and wait three months before volunteering again.  Sign up here!  Info and Guidelines here.

Please contact a mod or leave a comment with any questions.

Also: We have a comm mirror on tumblr, one that lapsed last summer. I'm making updates now, trying to keep it current. However, I'm all thumbs with this alien platform. Is there any point, in these vast fandoms, in tagging? What tags are best to use? What are other major Sherlock Holmes rec blogs on tumblr? Any help appreciated.

re: tumblr tags, I'd say just tag with the fandom verse(s): sherlock, elementary, acd, granada holmes, etc.

I think sherlockbbcficrecs is one of the main rec blogs, since they host the Holmesies, but I'm really not sure beyond that as to which of the many rec blogs fandom might frequent. Tags-wise, Tumblr blogs seem to use pretty much the same types of tags as this comm, as well as author tags. I wish I were more help, but I tend not to use Tumblr for fic (or much else, honestly, since I still find it a very user-unfriendly platform, so I sympathize).

You're welcome! Tags are quite helpful for finding stuff within a particular blog. General search on Tumblr is notoriously bad, however. On LJ you can pretty easily find stuff from years past, and the platform also works as an informal archive, whereas on Tumblr stuff just gets lost unless you bookmark it (or reblog it yourself, but even then you have to search your own blog). I will probably never understand why the fandom hive mind chose Tumblr as its new platform. It has its uses, but imo it's terrible at the text/discussion/community functions of fandom, so I feel like it leaves a significant proportion of people out in the cold. I too am hoping a better platform comes along soon. o_O
