fic rec: Fracture Mechanics
Oct. 21st, 2014 07:23 pmTitle: Fracture Mechanics
Author: kres
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 9523
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: none
Verse: BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock knows what he needs. He thought he knew how to ask for it. Maybe he too had been imprecise.
Reccer's comments: This is one of those fics that's so well-constructed that I spent multiple reads poring over it, trying to figure out how the author did it. It's one of the best Sherlock POVs I've read. I love fics that deal with Sherlock's limited emotional toolbox and how it affects his thinking and behavior, and this really gets inside how he might view sex and sentiment. It centers around a recent near-death experience and how he and John react to it, how it changes their relationship, and how it may change Sherlock's view of things in ways he hasn't realized yet. It's a fantastic use of the 'show don't tell' rule, and an excellent character study.
