Title: A Hymn to the Endlessly Falling
Author: Katie Forsythe (wordstrings)
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 18,300
Rating: Mature
Warnings: None given
Verse: ACD
Author's summary: In 1927, a funeral, a wedding, and Sherlock Holmes teach John Watson how to let go.
Reccer's comments: I have a soft spot for well written retirement fic, which tends to be, as a genre, a bit sweet and melancholy at once. Hymn is those things and more; a bit funny, a bit hot and deliciously characterized. Katie/wordstrings has a thorough and thoroughly fascinating on take on these characters (whom I tend to interpret in this case as something in between the ACD and Ritchie verses) in whatever time period she writes them. Hymn takes place after the crucible of Holmes and Watson's 221b years - beyond Reichenbach, Mary, and the Great War- and it is absolutely as captivating as any first time fic.
