Title: Nothing Between Us And the New World
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: ~10k
Author's summary: An old army buddy convinces Holmes and Watson to investigate a series of robberies at his inn on the Cornish coast. Watson is sure Holmes has only agreed to cheer him up after Mary’s death, but there may be more going on under the surface.
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Verse: 09 movie
Reccer's comments: I came to the Holmes fandom through the new BBC show, but this is the story that made me go binge-reading traditional Holmes/Watson fic after finishing it. It combines a well thought out case-file with delicious UST and very realistic characterization. I love well done "first-time" fic, and this had me grinning from ear to ear!

Also posted here on AO3.

Ah finally something I know! I realise that's not the aim of rec comm's but I do like to see something familiar crop up from time to time.

One thing though, I was a little unsure and checked the fic and the author states it's movieverse, not bookverse. I think the characterisations are well done, but to me they're very much movie bods. ^_^

Ah and you edited it anyway :D I should go back and re-read and then debate the characterisation with you :)

I'd suggest taking the tag out but keeping your comment in. It's an interesting thing to mention to someone going to read it, but it might be a bit confusing to someone searching for bookverse fic. Up to you though. I think it's a judgement call.

I think it's best this way. Interesting talking point, but purists and the author would probably prefer it being classified movieverse.

*tootles back to murdering Mendelssohn's Lieder on her Strad.* I'll never seduce Watson if I can't even play his favourites right.

(((I am aware there may be other flaws in my plan to be the next Mrs Watson and move into 221B, but I choose not to think about them)))

Well since I'm going to assume that your icon is a picture of you, I'd say very good indeed :p

I don't have a real Strad! There's only about 650 left in the world these days. I have one of the 18thC replicas. Still very good. I just like to pretend, and why not?

I don't think I could be trusted with a real Strad. I start twitching and hyperventilating just being in the same room as one. I'd probably spontaneously combust and take it up in flames with me if I ever got to hold one!

This reminds me I have a lesson on Friday I'm NOT prepared for.

Ack! Know that feeling. I'm glad I don't take regular lessons anymore.

Well, it's almost 11pm, my neighbors probably wouldn't be amused.

Mine appears to be playing the trombone atm. so I don't think he'll mind if I pick my violin up again *g*

t looks like I'll have to read fic instead.

Oh the hardships of life! Enjoy ^_^

I came to the Holmes fandom through the new BBC show This is the line that made me want to read your rec because while I haven't devoured non-BBC canon stories I somehow managed to read some stories that blew my mind and know there must be more out threre!

And your rec didn't disappoint. What an absolutely beautiful story. And the ending! I think it's quite possibly the most beautiful ending I've ever read.

Thanks for a wonderful rec.
