We have spaces for two more volunteers for February.

As always, recs are welcome for old and new completed fic, vids, art, podfic, and meta, for any version of Sherlock Holmes. All are invited to share, though you must be a member of the comm to make posts. We ask that reccers make between four and twelve recs for the month, and wait three months before volunteering again.
Sign up here!  Info and Guidelines here.

Please contact a mod or leave a comment with any questions.

Title: [Pencil] Case of the Blind Banker
Artist: sorrel_forbes
Pairing: Gen
Rating: G
Warnings: N/A
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sebastian Wilkes sends a letter: Sherlock, Buddy, can you solve this pencil case for me?

Reccer's comments: And now for something a bit different.

This art rec is more specifically a textile art and puzzle rec. The piece consists of four parts:

  1. a decorated envelope;

  2. the message inside it (accompanied by similar decorations);

  3. a pencil case made up of patchwork squares, some of them embroidered;

  4. and the contents of the pencil case—little squares and rectangles of paper with pictures, words and numbers on them.

As the author's summary says: the message is from Sebastian Wilkes, and in it he requests Sherlock to have a go at solving the puzzle!

I must admit I didn’t manage to solve the puzzle but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. It’s beautiful to look at and the solution is rather satisfying. Also interesting—I learnt something new from it.

NB: The artist doesn’t formally label it as a series but this is the first of three similar pencil case puzzles. The other two are Everything of Importance and Of Course She Had a Pink Case! (Both gen and rated G.)

Title: So Keen a Sympathy (also on LJ)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity
Pairings: Mary Morstan/Kate Whitney, John Watson/Mary Morstan, implied Holmes/Watson
Length: 5059
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No standard warnings apply
Verse: ACD Canon

Author's Summary: “I should have gone with you,” Kate said, and I looked up to find her watching me. “We should have gone away and gotten that little house together.”

Reccer's Comments: This was the present I received for the most recent Holmestice.

Some time ago I'd read "The Man with the Twisted Lip", in which Kate Whitney appears. Since then I'd wondered about her past relationship with Mary (or at least I have always assumed that Mary is Watson's wife in the story), if it'd possibly gone further than a friendship. I'd prompted for something in this regard for this past Holmestice, and [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity delivered with a beautiful story.

I adore this little slice of domesticity, here. And there is SO. MUCH. LOVE. AND UNDERSTANDING. And there's a happy ending for all concerned.

Author has added the following tags to AO3, which I'm attaching here as content notes: Period-typical heteropatriarchy, period-typical classism, drug use, infidelity

[Mods, may I have a character tag for Kate Whitney? And a pairing tag for her and Mary Morstan?]
