Title: Perdition's Flames
Author: faviconi_ship_an_armada
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 63,435 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock would do anything to save him. Risk anything. Give anything. His money, his life. His soul. What he does, though, is change both of their destinies forever. Genetic re-engineering is the only option left. It turns out researchers underestimated the life expectancy and potential abilities of genetically re-engineered subjects. The British government and what would eventually become the United Federation of Planets, however, had not.

Reccer's comments: The ultimate STID (Star Trek: Into Darkness) Treklock fusion. Sherlock Holmes *is* Khan, and he owns it hard. Action, mystery, science, badassery, and the power of love combine to reunite Sherlock and John after two centuries of each thinking the other dead. Knowledge of the movie is not necessary, nor will you be spoiled if you've seen the movie.

Excerpt... )

It's a blast seeing Sherlock outmaneuver the Klingons, Starfleet, and the entire Federation, only to be thrown completely off by a single look from John. The rest of the characters are given excellent development as well, with great banter from Bones, Scotty, and the rest of the Enterprise's crew. Rounded out by a superb performance from Lt. Moira Hargreaves, who just may be channeling one of our favourite pathologists.

Title: Possessed
Author: [livejournal.com profile] roxy_skip
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 13,050
Rating: R
Warnings: None
Verse: ACD Canon

Author's summary: Holmes, he had said. Earnest blue eyes held him pinned. Trust me.
To do otherwise would not have occurred to him.
Trust me. Close your eyes.
And then everything that was his life was taken, and twisted, and blasted to shreds.

Reccer's comments: This is a fic that has been buried in 10 parts on Roxy_Skip's LiveJournal, which seems to exist only to host it. Note that it is technically a WIP, but if she(?) had not said there was intended to be an epilogue, you would not miss it. It's a tale of full-on demonic possession where Watson's anguish at being manipulated is vividly and realistically drawn. One part of the story actually made me gasp aloud. ("Noooo")
I'm sorry Roxy_Skip (to my knowledge) never wrote anything else, but at any rate, this tale deserves to be more widely known.

Title: You'll never be alone in the bone orchard
Author: SarahT
Pairing: Gen
Length: 9114
Rating: Mature
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: John Watson meets Mycroft Holmes one day early. The world tilts slightly on its axis.
Reccer's comments: The premise of this fic is that Mycroft approaches John, newly returned from Afghanistan, before John meets Sherlock. Mycroft offers him a job: be an assassin for the British government. John takes the job and various adventures begin.

I have to start by saying I've always found John Watson to be one of the most boring characters in fiction, and the way the character is done in Sherlock (and virtually all fanfic I've read) has never challenged that opinion. In this fic, SarahT accomplishes a rare feat: make John interesting in his own right. The absence of a relationship between John and Sherlock gives John the room to develop as a character as he confronts the consequences the war had for him.

The author also accomplishes an in-character (and in-canon character) Mycroft: slippery, dangerous, pragmatic, terrifying, and entirely believable as the kind of man who would get to the top of the pile without any thought to the cost to anyone else, while retaining his unhealthy and over-protective relationship with Sherlock.

The professional relationship that develops between John and Mycroft is fascinating and quite unlike anything I've come across in the fandom. And the fic has quite simply the best plot twist at the very end. A fic that follows none of the conventions of Sherlock fanfic, and is all the better for it.

Title: The Rule of Three
Author: [livejournal.com profile] killalla
Pairing: SH/JW/MH
Length: ~7,500 words
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Verse: ACD Books

Author's summary: Beginnings, endings and a most unconventional arrangement.

Reccer's comments: Here's a fic which has been buried in the back pages of Cox&Co. since - hold on - 2005. Many of the author's other fics are on AO3, but for some reason, this one isn't.
Remember, in canon we are never given any indication of how old Martha Hudson is. In this charming story told from her point of view, Killalla has chosen to envision her as a contemporary of Holmes and Watson. It's a sweet and unusual tale of an arrangement that stays completely true to the characters as we know them and true to the times in which they lived.

Mods, I think we need a tag for Pairing:SH/JW/Martha or some such.

Title: Everything at Once - Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett)
Music Title & Artist: "Everything at Once" by Lenka
Vidder: XLadyClaireX
Pairing or Character: Sherlock Holmes
Verse: Granada
Link: I was not able to find an announcement page on LJ or dreamwidth, so I am including the YouTube link here: Everything at Once vid

Reccer's Comments: This is such a playful, light-hearted vid that it seemed perfect to ring in the new year. I really enjoy the matching of lyrics and images in this creation, particularly because the unusual and evocative similes in the song -- "as neat as a word," "as cool as a tree," "as light as play," "as grand as a whale" -- inspired the vidder to find some hilariously appropriate visual matches and to utilize a lot of shots that I have rarely seen in other vids.

The theme of the song and the vid -- that here we have a character who contains multitudes -- becomes a delightful celebration of Jeremy Brett's endlessly expressive, groundbreaking portrayal of a character who was so often previously imagined as rather a cold fish. Here, instead, we see the whirlwind of emotions and possibilities that Sherlock Holmes can contain.

Plus, it's just fun :)

Title: Last Glimpse
Artist:] [livejournal.com profile] fictionforlife
Pairing: H/W
Rating: G
Warnings: None, except for angst.
Verse: ACD Canon
Reccer's comments: Fictionforlife has captured the iconic moment at Reichenbach Falls where Watson returns to the hotel, leaving Holmes alone to meet Moriarty. The artist has caught the almost unbearable tension and poignance of the moment, where we know what will happen, but neither of the subjects know how the future will play out. The starkness of the black and white composition, the immensity of the Falls, and the tension in the figures all contribute to the tremendous power of the image.
