Title: An Interlude (or on AO3)
Author:
stardust_made
Pairing: None
Length: ~ 800 words
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: John is leaning on the window sill and looking at the sea. There is an endless electric-orange swipe that runs parallel to the horizon as if someone has drawn it there, a line between heaven and earth.
Reccer's comments: With the "real" reunion happening a month from now, it seems a good time to recommend this little gem which features a quiet moment after Sherlock and John's reunion.
Instead of the initial anger, shock and hurt of Sherlock's reappearance in John's life which figure so prominently in most Post-Reichenbach fics, we enter the stage at a later moment and get a look inside John's mind as he gazes out at the sea in the safe knowledge that Sherlock is there, back with him. The atmosphere of sunset and sea-side really hightens the impression that we're part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience - which of course is exactly what Sherlock's miraculous return from the dead should be.
Nothing actually happens and yet it's a wonderful moment of happiness, hope and peace, wonderfully composed and conveyed through the smooth, poetic language that is a trademark of
stardust_made's writing, leaving the reader behind with a warm and fuzzy glow of perfect contentment.
