Title: A Good Man
Author: Whitman's Kiss
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 3,238
Rating: R
Warnings: From the author's Livejournal post: major character death, suicide ideation, angst, drinking, some crude language [S1 compliant; no spoilers for S2 except the concept of Reichenbach]
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary: "Sherlock Holmes is a great man -- and I think one day -- if we're very, very lucky, he might even be a good one."

Reccer's comments: This is one of the most heart-wrenching stories I have ever read. Each time I read it, at the same point I have to stop and walk away for a moment, if only to reach for a kleenex. The story was written prior to The Reichenbach Falls episode and so follows ACD's story The Final Problem. It is set the night before the memorial service for Sherlock.

I think that's enough. Please read the author's warnings and decide for yourself whether to read, but I will say it's poignantly written with deep insight into grief, and beautifully structured with a shock that, even as I type these words, has tears in my eyes.
