Title: The Stars Move Still
Author: BeautifulFiction
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 96,000
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: "What could I want so desperately that would make me sell my soul? What could possibly compel me to surrender the part of myself that makes me who I am: the source of my magic, my self-control, everything?"

Reccer's comments: Guys, I can't rec this highly enough. The author's name is BeautifulFiction and that's exactly what this is. It's the kind of fic that makes you pause and stare at the wall because the fic has just completely stunned and amazed you and you have to stop to take it all in (before you eagerly go back to devouring it).

This is a magic AU that integrates fantasy elements smoothly into the plot and the familiar world of Sherlock. The characters' canon skills are translated beautifully into specialized forms of magic - what they do hasn't changed, just how they do it. The plot starts with Sherlock and John investigating a cult which is sacrificing humans to the demon Moriarty. Things take a disastrous turn, and Sherlock - under duress and with only seconds to fix things - makes a deal with the demon in exchange for his soul. What remains is a semi-functional Sherlock, with his awareness, emotions, and personality intact but severely dimmed. Moriarty can take over his body, use his magic, and access his memories at any time.

The plot naturally touches on and explores a lot of the conventions and themes common to fanfic - sacrifice, survivor's guilt, a character's actions conveying an emotion that they've kept secret, mind reading, loss of control, fighting back despite things seeming hopeless, and of course tons of hurt/comfort. Sherlock and John's relationship develops slowly through the fic, as the events that separate them also draw them closer together in other ways.

One of my favorite aspects of this fic are the 'sprites' Sherlock creates using his magic - glowing orbs that act as his spies or messengers. They're connected to him emotionally, and (to his embarrassment) utterly betray his feelings by hovering around John like puppies eager for their master's affection. And when John holds and strokes them... well, you'll just have to read it for yourself. ;)

Excerpt: The creature's lips curved. An almost serpentine sway of his head gave something away of his nature: not human at all. 'I know you're not alone. There are others around you, weak, dull. Except...'

Something twitched across its face, taking the childish joy away with it as a frown creased his brow. 'Oh, you have a pet. He shines for you. Follows in your footsteps like a good little dog. Dodgy shoulder, crippled leg.' The demon grimaced. 'Better put it out of its misery.'

Magic slammed into Sherlock's shields as he met the assault head on, shoving the attack away from the path that would lead it back to John. Roars and crashes split the realm, and Sherlock felt a thrill as the demon's eyes widened.

'Oh,' he whispered, looking as if he had found something intriguing. 'More than a pet, then. Cut for length... )

Title: The Uncanny Mrs Hudson
Author: ifonlynotnever
Pairing: Gen
Length: 575 words
Rating: None
Warnings: None
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary: For a kinkmeme prompt: "Mrs Hudson knew precisely what kind of person she was offering tea to. The assassin, however, did not know what she'd added to the tea."

Or: Mrs Hudson is the biggest BAMF of all.

(Technically takes place during RBF, but no knowledge of the episode is really necessary.)

Reccer's comments: Probably most people already know this tiny story, but this particular Mrs Hudson is my all-time favorite so I have to share it, just in case someone missed it. I completely believe that the BBC's version of Mrs Hudson could -- and would -- do this. Remember the scene in Scandal when we discover she has successfully hidden the phone from those horrible CIA people? How did she even know about the phone? Because she is AWESOME, just like in this story. (I want to be just like her when I grow up.)
