Title: Many a musèd rhyme
Author: [livejournal.com profile] buriedbooks
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 927
Rating: PG-13 (author's rating; do take heed of the Warning!)
Warnings: crime scene gore
Verse: Ritchie films

Author's summary: None given. Have an excerpt instead: "Watson has not lived this long with Holmes without picking up some observation skills of his own. It was but a week ago that Lestrade came to ask for their assistance in the Ripper case, his lip curled in scorn at that name but using it for lack of a better denomination. Holmes had been dismissive, of course, but there had not been a single case in the past two months and the inactivity had very obviously driven him near-insane, despite the doctor’s efforts to keep him distracted, so that he did not overly protest when roped into the investigation."

Reccer's comments: Short but very haunting, it creeps under your skin. I love how, as the reader, you follow along with Watson in his vague suspicions, covered up by porous denial. It is beautifully written in an almost lyrical tone. The last line in particular is chilling perfection.
