Artist's notes: There are many parallels between these two singular characters, which are represented here textually and visually. A gift fordrinkingcocoa, who loves these two as much as I do, and who identified the quotes from BBC Sherlock, the Harry Potter series, and Machiavelli's The Prince that best link these men. The title is Latin and translates to "Of Leaders" and is a play on the Latin translation of Machiavelli's work. Many thanks to sc010f for sharing her Latin expertise.
Reccer's comments: I lovepennswoods' style - she uses vibrant colours in a really refreshing way, and I love the cleanness of her lines and her character designs. In this particular piece, she brings the two sarcastic geniuses of BBC Sherlock and Harry Potter together in one frame: Sherlock and professor Snape. The two eye each other critically, and it really makes me wonder what they would make of each other - I think they'd both scoff at the other's fields of expertise, but underneath they would grudgingly respect each other's methods and intelligence. This shows that dynamic well. I love the poses and the fact that the source of the lighting seems to be somewhere between them. And the textures! The cross-shading on Sherlock's coat is nothing short of exquisite. pennswoods has supplemented this portrait with quotes from both canons, as well as quotes from Machiavelli's Il Principe, which gives an extra depth to the comparison of these two hard-edged, morally ambiguous and extremely brave men.
