Title: Still Two Days Till We Say We're Sorry
Author: [livejournal.com profile] prettyarbitrary
Pairing: Gen
Length: 1359
Rating: PG (for face-punching)
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock is alive. John punches him for it. He's still probably getting off lightly.

Reccer's comments: HAPPY (supposed) BIRTHDAY, SHERLOCK HOLMES! Have a fic where John punches you in the face for faking your death for three flipping years! I bring people the best presents. :D To say that reading this was cathartic may be a bit of an understatement, especially for those who have been waiting for something like this since they first read The Adventure of the Empty House. How John reacts is perfect for the character we love; it's not just righteous fury that erupts in him, but the deep love that all Watsons will have for their Holmeses.

And then...

Title: On the Back Swing
Length: 1635
Pairing: Gen
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Author's summary: Sherlock is alive. Lestrade punches him for it. He's probably getting off lightly.

Reccer's comments: Here's the sequel where Lestrade punches him! I should really not be this manically gleeful about it. This bit goes into what NSY feels about Sherlock coming back from the dead, with a focus on Lestrade. And it really brings home the fact that Sherlock is alive and things are so much better for it. What can I say, I'm a sucker for happy endings.

A03 link for the series.

Title: Fallen

Pairing: gen
Length: 47,628
Rating:  Teen and Up
Warningsnone
Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary: Sherlock is not just a Consulting Detective but also an Adept in a world filled (unbeknownst to most humans) with supernatural beings. Unbeknownst to Sherlock, John is his Guardian Angel. Original AU crossover with BBC Sherlock.

Reccer's comments: One of the things I love about fanfic is the chance to delve into the heart of the story through transformative writing.   This AU fic explores John’s role as Sherlock’s protector by making him his literal Guardian Angel – and in doing so, weaves a fantastic magical thread through the familiar story.  Mamishka deftly avoids the biggest pitfall of AU’s based on the original episodes – too much repetition –  and manages to keep the spirit of the canon story while still creating something shiny and unexpected.  It does a masterful job at borrowing from a number of different traditions, not just Christianity, and building a world that feels solid and real, with the magic and mundane fitting together perfectly.

There is also a WIP sequel called Invisible Bonds which is shaping up to be as good, if not even better, than the first story.

Title: The Cold Song Series
Author: [livejournal.com profile] eldritchhorrors
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: Three connected fics, 35,000 words in total so far
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None that fit with this comm’s guidelines
Verse: BBC
Author's summary: When Moriarty told Sherlock that he would cut the heart out of him, he failed to mention that someone of his acquaintance already had. (He was saving that little tidbit for later.)

Reccer's comments: I have to declare an interest in this series, having joined the beta team with the recent third instalment, but I did that because I loved it! This is an intense, emotionally nuanced portrayal of a developing romantic relationship between Sherlock and John, which happens to have BDSM and drug use (and classical music) among its main themes. Whether or not you have an interest in any of the above, this series is outstanding – it’s for anyone into S/J who likes to think and has a taste for elegant writing.

Story 1: I Hear Those Voices That Will Not Be Drowned
Story 2: Within this Frail Crucible of Light
