Title: Come and See
Author: Mariana O'Connor aka [livejournal.com profile] definewisdom
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 17,500
Rating: R
Warnings: rape/non-con
Verse: Sherlock BBC, crossover with the Book of Revelations
Author's summary: John Watson is Death. He wasn't supposed to kill the cabbie at the end of A Study in Pink, Sherlock Holmes was supposed to die that night. But Sherlock's still alive and now the world is starting to fall apart. The events of the whole series seen in a slightly more supernatural light. Also featuring "Anthea", Harry and Sebastian as the other horsemen of the apocalypse, and exploring what it takes to become a myth.

Reccer's comments:  full disclosure: I illustrated this fic for SherlockBigBang earlier this year.  At first I thought the premise was preposterous, but the story swept me away, and really cemented my love for and awe of the 21st C John Watson. It even made me re-read Revelations. Mariana weaves an iconic character into this powerful mythos: the entire universe is at stake. The tale will leave you breathless. And you may never look at John Watson in the same way again.

My last rec of the month, squeaking through to post on the wreckage of the LJ-pocalypse.

Title: A Study in Grey
Author: [livejournal.com profile] morganstuart
Pairing: Gen
Length: 1300
Rating: R for intense themes and violence
Warnings:(these are also spoilers for the fic) graphic description of violence, character death
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock learns that Moriarty keeps his promises.
Reccer's comments: Get out your hankies, gentle readers. No one writes noble, competent-as-hell Lestrade quite like [livejournal.com profile] morganstuart. Her nuanced takes on everyone’s favorite silver fox detective have become my head-canon for Lestrade, and this fic is another stellar example of her characterization. Sherlock is lovingly drawn here as well: he's his usual brilliant self, dealing with events as well as he can with his limited ability to process and express emotions. The story is one of those great and terrible (terrible as in impressive) examples of a horrifying situation drawn in such a realistic way as to make you wake up in the morning thinking this scene actually took place in some mysterious (and cruel) Episode 4 of Series 1. But seriously, bring your tissues.
