Fic Rec: Ripeness is All
Oct. 13th, 2012 09:38 amTitle: Ripeness is All
Author: savithny
Pairing: none
Length: 3644 words
Rating: gen
Warnings: None
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary: Hounds of Baskerville filler: Sherlock didn’t feel guilty about the incident in the lab. He was less comfortable with what happened afterwards. People blowing up is not in his John Watson Users Guide.
Reccer's comments: I have a huge thing for John. BAMF!John. Soldier!John. Doctor!John. Well, almost anything John. *grin* (I didn’t know what BAMF meant until this fandom. See? Just goes to show you, one never stops learning.) This story provides insight into John and Sherlock through a missing moment in Hounds. We watch John, the soldier and doctor, emerge and at what cost. And of course, this provides fodder for Sherlock to deduce more about John’s PTSD. Lestrade is also a player in this tale providing a reassuring presence. The author’s writing is sharp and confident, the action scenes well described, and her/his take on PTSD comes across believably. More than anything, I enjoyed exploring this “other” John we see so little about on the show. (I’d love to see next season feature more of these faces of John.) The author mentions a previous story called, Sometimes You Hear the Bullets, which is also an excellent read. Go enjoy.
