Fic Rec: Bent
Oct. 10th, 2012 09:32 pmTitle: Bent
Author: lifeonmars
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 12,101words
Rating: Mature
Warnings: None
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary:Sherlock straightens a poker. Something in John's mind snaps. For all fans of The Speckled Band.
Reccer's comments: “I like detective stories.” So do I. Perhaps Irene is reading fanfic case files somewhere? In any case, lifeonmars’s case file, Bent, is a fun and humorous riff on the Speckled Band and the multiple meanings of bent. This story has a well-told plot, the pacing is tight, the tone playful, the dialogue witty, the characterizations spot-on, and the romance hot. Even the author’s use of language is a pleasure all its own. It’s a first time story swirling around a case while John’s dawning lust slowly unhinges him. In his defense, watching Sherlock with an iron poker would push anyone over the edge. *gulp* And Sherlock, ever the baritone, bratty self, observes all. The fun here is how Sherlock controls himself and demands the same of John while they are on the case. Scene highlights include the two of them wrestling like little boys, bouts of uncontrollable giggling, and pretending to be persecuted lovers. I’ve read this many times. I hope you do too.
