You're welcome to leave recs in comments to this post. Any version of Sherlock Holmes is welcome, and any fan work as fic, art, vids, or podfic. Please feel free to recommend WIPs as well. We'd rather have individual recs than links to external rec lists, however. If you have any questions, please comment or PM one of the mods.

Some quick recs:

Where the Sun Never Shines by teahigh

John is a mess. Sherlock can't fix him, but he tries. That's good enough, John thinks.
Post-Reichenbach hurt/comfort.

Man and Beast by jupiter_ash

Sherlock is a werewolf who is captured by a facility which wants to experiment on him.  When John is placed into his cage they expect Sherlock to attack him, but instead, he tries to mate with John.

The Weight of Knowledge by sherlocksdressinggown (Bradspyjamas)
http://archiveofourown.org/works/412788
They say that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. When John’s curiosity is piqued by Sherlock’s reaction to a simple offering he decides an experiment is in order. The data he gathers leads him to the one situation he’d never thought he’d find himself in. Or not in, as the case may be.
Body issues/eating disorders.

In the Land of the Blind by entangled_now

Sherlock's been acting strangely for days. There's a claustrophobic silence to the flat, experiments tossed aside or abandoned, cases ignored. It's almost as if nothing matters any more. John's determined to know why.
Apocalpyse fic.

I'm following a WIP called Be Here Now by todesfuge. She's up to chapter 12. It's a Sherlock/John first-time romance and action adventure, post-Reichenbach.

When we first see John, he is suicidal. todesfuge has created a strong backstory for John and his motivations. And we get to see BAMF!John and Dr. John Watson! Irene and Mycroft are also featured players. I'm completely hooked by this well-written and imagined story!

Her summary states: "John Watson was already fighting demons when he and Sherlock met. With Sherlock's suicide, it all comes flooding back, forcing Sherlock to reveal his plans -- all of them -- sooner than he had planned. Set six months after the events of Reichenbach Falls."

Another author I've been reading is Katie Forsythe (found her through a rec by swissmiss). She writes ACD Holmes/Watson stories. Never knew I would enjoy these as much as the BBC verse until I started reading them. I particularly enjoyed Undiscovered Country.

The Holmes and Watson she writes feel deeply for one another and yet must live within the norms of their times.

I've tried to link stories before with little success so I hope I've done it right this time.

And another gem from the [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc Commfest:

With Trembling Hands (http://sherlockbbc.livejournal.com/4915669.html) by [livejournal.com profile] joe_pike_junior (PG, 1,200 words)
Sherlock is a black sheep, and Mrs. Hudson understands.

A short and clever fic telling of a younger Martha Hudson, her life as a Cold War spy and how she met the Holmes brothers. Fabulous backstory and insight, lovely characterisation and dialogue; allover wonderfully written. Take the time for this!

Gen! fic, BBC Sherlock

And A Doctor by stillwaters01

We're used to seeing BAMF!John as a soldier or chasing-after-criminals-guy. It's not often we get to see 'Medical BAMF'!John. I love that not only is John written as a very competent medical professional, but the fic also explores how people seem to forget that he is, in fact, a Doctor and not just a former 'army doctor' or Sherlock's 'handler'. :D:D:D:D And, yet, for those who love 'former military BAMF'!John, he makes an appearance as well. :D Well-written and absolutely squeeworthy.

The Case of the Kidnapped Inspector, by calccarbonate

H/W; eventual H/W/L woo-hoo!

PG up until the last chapter, which is definitely NC-17

22 chapters, beginning here: http://calccarbonate.livejournal.com/14358.html#cutid1

Long, satisfyingly plotty, and melodramatic, this ACD-verse fic creates a fascinating backstory for Lestrade, who is revealed to be resilient, courageous, indefatigable, kind-hearted, eminently practical, and devilishly clever--and that's long before we actually meet him in the story. This is one of my favorite characterizations of Lestrade, with an absolutely incendiary threesome after he returns to Baker Street to recuperate in the care of Watson and Holmes.

I haven't been able to read much lately, but I was blown over by the latest installment of aderyn's fabulous Deep Map series, Bora (http://archiveofourown.org/works/510572). I'm not even sorry for the pun.

Summary: "The wind that swept away the Visigoths doesn’t blow in London.

It brings him in, though, detritus kicked up out of the northeast.

It blows him home."

Emmadelosnardos has updated her psychological character study of John (and Sherlock)That Obscure Object () recently.
Summary: "Danger was a green pool in an inner courtyard, the wet slide of skin against skin, the risk of being caught. Danger was a needle under the floorboards, opium in the toe of a slipper, the subterfuge of his habit. Danger was a shabby cabbie, even odds, an aneurysm."
