You may have noticed that we took a break from weekly Open Recs for August. Participation had slowed to one or two posts or recs in comments each weekend. With the fading of summer in this hemisphere, maybe readers will have more time.

We'll begin again with Open Recs posts in comments and maybe opening the comm to all posters for recs once a month again.

So please, here, you're welcome this weekend to leave recs in comments to this post. Any version of Sherlock Holmes is welcome, and any fan work as fic, art, vids, or podfic. Please feel free to recommend WIPs as well. We'd rather have individual recs than links to external rec lists, however. If you have any questions, please comment or PM one of the mods.

"Bowbroken" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/493976) (on AO3), the latest part of Aderyn's Deep Map series. London-centered, spooky atmosphere. Author summary: "The city is the body and the body is the city."

If you are a fan of classical music or "A Clockwork Orange", you might also enjoy aderyn's ficlet "Ludwig Van" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/473780)
Author summary: "Sherlock can quote Beethoven's Ninth; of course he can, but he doesn't. Sherlock Holmes does not believe in the brotherhood of man."

kay_cricketed's A Lost Thimble (http://archiveofourown.org/works/359048) is a Borrowers AU featuring Borrower!John and Human Bean!Sherlock. Although based on a book for children, the story so far is bittersweet rather than cracky. Lovely characterization and world-building. Note: has not been updated in some time, but the author!anon has checked in recently. Keep an eye on this thread on the kink meme (http://sherlockbbc-fic.livejournal.com/8300.html?thread=93819500) for new material. You can see from the camping going on that it's acquired some devoted fans...

Love to hear of others' recs! (though as it's a long weekend in North America and the new DW series is commencing, I won't be surprised if this too is pretty quiet)

To Light Another's Path (http://truths_in_lies.livejournal.com/59958.html#cutid1) by truths_in_lies is a lovely story, staring with Jphn taking care of a sick Sherlock. But hey, it's so much more than Doctor John, believe you me!

Summary: Sherlock in the garden, holding his head together with two hands. The first moment that John knew. And Sherlock's wrist, trapped beneath John's fingers, the hard knob of bone that settled against John's knuckle, the hint of thin delicate bones beneath John's fingertips. The first moment he dared.

This short fic is so concise it seems much longer, deeper, and is very very effective. It has unrequited love [no actual slash!], a confused John and possibly asexual Sherlock, and it has the two of them needing each other in what is both bittersweet and incredibly warm. I really enjoyed this story for its writing: subtle, harmonic, beautiful tone and expressions. Give it a try - the first three paragraphs should be enough to convince you ♥

You have to wonder what those poor women he dates thinks of it, especially if John decides to try keeping one away from Sherlock, and Sherlock decides that it'd be best if he could get rid of her. After all, Mycroft's taught him a thing or two about removing potential 'problems.'
Reccer's comments: Brilliant outsider POV. You feel for the narrator, Sam, as she meets this great guy, a doctor, and gets swept up in the insanity that is John Watson's life. Her post-date check-ins with her giirlfriends made me laugh out loud.
