Reccer's comments: I don't usually rec such short pieces, but this one is utterly brilliant and made me crow out loud with laughter. It's a bit of mindfuck that totally got me. Beyond that, though, it's also a very insightful piece and a thoughtful look at dealing with grief.

He found me when I was broken, and he breathed life back into me. It was just the two of us, living and working together, for the longest time. My life started to revolve around only him, and he quickly became my best friend.

I have lost many people to death, but I have never before lost a best friend.

I also decided to rec this because I thought it might not get a huge readership just from the summary, which makes you think it's going to be just one more post-Reichenbach John-thinks-he-sees-Sherlock fic, because it's hard not to be spoilery. ;) And I think, you know, beyond the obvious punch line aspect, it's a really good character piece. For that character. You know.
