Reccer's comments: Saki101's series is a gap-filler for THoB, inspired by questions Saki101 had after comparing Sherlock and John's relationship during THoB and TRF. Tension is handled beautifully by the author, with a slow buildup leading to a decision that will result in an unexpected side effect. The atmosphere beginning in part three is mysterious and the relationship between Sherlock and John is intense. Excellent use of flashbacks.

It's really exciting for me to see this recced; I only discovered them the other week. The Other Experiments series (http://archiveofourown.org/series/15644) that dovetails with it and augments is something really special, and seems for the most part to have flown under the fandom radar so far.

I'm glad to meet another fan of both series!

I didn't discuss Other Experiments because most WIPs are only permitted in the comments of the weekly Open Recs post (see the "Comm Info and Guidelines" link on the left side of the page for more information). I probably should have at least mentioned it, as the two series can be interpreted as being part of the same 'verse, but I tend to keep them separate in my head. I love the premise and (so far) the execution of Other Experiments; like Experiments, it has wonderful atmosphere (the library!) and tension.

Oh, yesh, I understand the reason you didn't rec both, I just wanted to flail at a fellow fan. :D

I am so excited by the Other Experiments series; it's so subtly different. I mean, there are lots of vampire/supernatural/immortal stories and series out in Sherlock fandom, and the Other Experiments series is something that really stands out as being unique and special. The layers of secrecy at the hospital are something I find really fascinating; I haven't seen its like in anything else.

I am very glad you stopped by to flail! As you said, neither series is well-known, so it's great to find someone else who loves them. I think the way Saki handles structure, mood, and tension makes the author's work exciting. For example, the sex scenes are great in part because things are left out; this fits so well with the mysteries in both series.

I've been concentrating on recc'ing less well-known authors and artists I admire. I feel lucky to be in a fandom that has so much talent!
