Reccer's comments: This is beautiful and heartbreaking and so very well-written. There's so much emotion in so few words, and it's very recognizably Sherlock, albeit an older and wiser version of him, grown into the great man that Lestrade hoped for. Bring your hankies, because the quiet grief of it will probably make you cry, but there's hope in it too. This has stuck with me ever since I read it.
