I'm afraid I don't know anything about other fandoms. The series itself was my introduction to fanfic. So I can't compare but I do know there are quite a lot of other fics that run easily into more than 100,000 words, are crossovers, have lots of OCs and are loved to distraction nevertheless. So I remain totally baffled why this wonderful, masterful AU isn't the huge success it ought to be.
