It's clear to the reader, however, and the layers of awareness between them are simultaneously clever and a bit poignant, given all that follows.The description from Sherlock's POV of his evidently besotted feelings for and observations of Irene is punctuated by parenthetical notes in the narrative as Moriarty works out when she can next squeeze him into her busy crime-lord schedule. She enjoys his company well enough, but her priorities obviously lie elsewhere.
