Author's summary: John rarely sees what Sherlock sees. Sometimes, John is chagrined by this. Sometimes, it's a good thing.

Reccer's comments: This story was written in response to a visual prompt: a photo of a tree apparently growing up through a piano. (A copy of the picture can be seen in the body of the fic.) John finds the picture in his emails and though he’s intrigued, Sherlock has a strongly negative reaction to it. This leads to John thinking out loud about the different ways he and Sherlock interpret what’s going on in the picture, and Sherlock begins to take a more positive view.

Of course, they’re not just talking about a piano and a tree here. This piece is an engaging study of John and Sherlock’s characters and their friendship. The story could have been dry and artificial but the conversation feels completely natural, and it’s a rather touching look at their relationship.
