Author's summary: On the three year anniversary of Sherlock's death, John finds something unusual in his flat. He shouldn't be so thrilled to be finally going mad. But is he? Oh god, yes.

Reccer's comments:This is my obligatory post-Reichenbach rec for the month because no matter how many times I say I'm done with the genre and no one can possibly have anything new to say, something like this one comes along that makes it all hurt and feel so good all over again.

It's a fairly standard Moran-based plot with the additional twist of Victor being involved. This gives both Sherlock and the reader an insight into his inner emotional life, which is now, of course, inextricably wrapped up with John. However, with John dating Mary, it's not as easy as a punch-and-fuck reunion. Which isn't to say they don't get there eventually.

“I don’t…” Sherlock is looking anywhere but at John, and the doctor can see him spiralling again, his brain switching into overdrive as he tries to play out every possible scenario in his head.

“No,” says John, bringing his focus back to his face. “Right now. What am I to you?”

“Mine,” Sherlock says immediately, like it’s obvious, like John has asked him his name or the colour of chlorine gas or the atomic number of nitrogen. The detective’s eyes find John’s again, full of new certainty.

“Mine,” he repeats, firmer. “My John.”

And what do I say to that, except— “Yes,” the doctor murmurs, his hand around the detective’s neck like he’s holding on for dear life. “Yes, alright then.”

Sherlock is a selfish bastard, John is helplessly in his orbit, the sex is smoking hot, hearts are ripped out (both literally and figuratively), people get shot (and some die, but then that's what people do), and somewhere along the line the world rights itself again for the inhabitants of 221B Baker Street.
