Title: Brothers in Arms
Author: Vanetta (lereya) at AO3
Pairing: John/Sholto
Length: 6130 words
Rating: AO3 rating is Explicit; I'd call it an R.
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: On his wedding day, John Watson reflects on his past with Major James Sholto.
Reccer's comments: I rarely read shipfic in this fandom but the AU setting (WWI) is one of my favourites, so I was willing to take a punt on this fic from the recently completed round of holmstice. And boy, was I glad I did! This is a very well-realised story about a wartime romance between John and Major Sholto. The characterisations and the wartime aspects of the story are well done, but the real strength of it in my mind is the wonderfully-crafted language. The formality of tone is period-appropriate, without being stiff or stilted. The story has a lovely flow that mirrors the development of the romance between the two men. I'd never read a John/Sholto fic and so was a bit leery, but the author makes the pairing very believable. So if you've never read one before, this fic would be an excellent introduction to the ship.
Mods: I need tags for jw/sholto and character: james sholto, please.
