Title: British Library, Cotton Domitian viii, Item IV, ff. 70-80: Historia Johannis
Author: longwhitecoats
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 3913
Rating: Mature
Warnings: N/A
Verse: BBC
Author's summary: Here follows the first translation of the Historia Johannis, commonly called "The Hermit's Tale."
Reccer's comments: This is one of my favorite underappreciated fics. I haven't seen any other fic like it. It reimagines John and Sherlock as the subjects of an ancient tale only partly recovered by scholars, and it's presented in an academic style with explanatory notes in parallel. The author clearly has experience in the field, and while a mock treatise on Johnlock may sound dull, it's actually very moving and memorable, and erotic to boot. It's quite a marvel.
