Title: Think – Sherlock Animated Painting
Artist: Lasse17 on dA (Mathias Olsen)
Characters: Sherlock Holmes
Rating: Unrated, but SFW
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Artist's summary: Alirght, this was fun, but quite alot to think about while trying to draw 3 images of the same motive in different poses, simultaneously
the hardest part was already done in the sketch part though matching everything, planning movement and light changes ^^
*Happy with the hands! for once
Photoshop + tablet
7-8 hours/frame (Sketch + match movement stuff not included)
3 main frames + 3 manipulated "tweens"
Reccer's comments: I would love to rec each and every one of this artist's pieces, as these digital paintings are masterpieces. (You can see the artist's deviantART gallery of portraits of Sherlock Holmes characters here.)
The major element that makes this piece so special for me, in addition to the animation, is the lighting. It's incredible how it's perfectly clear that Sherlock is meant to be illuminated by the glow of his (or possibly John's) laptop, even though it is never shown.
The facial expressions are also highly emotive and capture the quintessence of Sherlock's thought process, right down to the Eureka moment of realization.
The artist is active in a number of fandoms, and I hope that when series 3 airs, we will be seeing more gorgeous Sherlock art.
