Title: Read Our Futures in the Rising Steam
Author: xzombiexkittenx
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 21,902
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary: An unknown killer begins kidnapping and vivisecting men who bear a strong resemblance to one John Watson. Lestrade wants both John and a newly-resurrected Sherlock as far away from the case as possible- and not just because Sherlock is the Met's prime suspect. But this is a case that Sherlock, still feeling out the limits of John's grief and his own guilt, can't just ignore.

Author has warned for drug use, rape/non-con references and implied torture.

Reccer's comments: Oh, this is a good fic.

It's told from Sherlock's point of view and he manages to be brilliant, idiotic, funny and sympathetic all at once. Both the case and his developing relationship with John are satisfyingly complex and nicely paced. Best of all, everyone gets a chance to shine - John in particular with a spectacular display of BAMF-ness, and Sally (written as a competent, intelligent professional) with an intuitive leap of her own.

Special mention goes to Mycroft, who's nicely human and witty here, and the understated way Sherlock's relationship with him is handled.

Sherlock has been collecting vital details about John: DNA, x-rays, dental records, and such. He never wants to stand in a morgue wondering. And if it’s John, if it’s ever John lying on Molly’s table, he’s not confidant in his ability to be unemotional about it. He’s as certain as it is possible to be that he’ll prove to be spectacularly ridiculous in his reactions. Sherlock has the nagging sensation he’s already being a little ridiculous and John hasn’t even been inconvenienced, never mind actually harmed, at this point.

Sherlock's relationship with sex is complicated in this fic - if I had to pick a label, I'd describe him as minimally sexual. The sex is consensual and enjoyed but if descriptions of asexual characters having sex make you feel uncomfortable then you might want to skip to the end or give this fic a miss.

Verse: Sherlock BBC/Cabin Pressure crossover

Author's summary: Martin Crieff wakes up in hospital, unable to remember how he got there. When he is told that his entire life is a lie, should he believe it? And who can help him find out the truth?

Reccer's comments: Without giving too much away, rest assured that, despite the author's summary, this fic does indeed belong in the Sherlock universe. It's very cleverly written, as is anything by this author. I thought that the title was especially clever. Unfortunately I can't rave about it as much as I'd like, because it would give everything away. Suffice it to say that the supporting players in this story are all meant to represent canon characters. It's not hard to figure out who's who, but it's still entertaining to watch them fulfil their roles as they all try to assist the main character in trying to figure out who he is and how he got in this situation. The methods by which the author has this character remember these things are fascinating and clever. Seriously, give it a read!

Title: Corpus Hominis
Author: mycapeisplaid
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 47,673 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: none
Verse: BBC Sherlock
Author's summary: John knows the human body intimately. He’s had plenty of opportunity for study as a doctor, soldier, and lover. There’s one particular body, however, he knows very little about. When Sherlock launches himself head-first into a new obsession and they get sent on a case in an unlikely location, the pair discovers each other’s bodies with confusing yet delightful (and sometimes hilarious) results.
Reccer's comments: An excellent first-time fic, and a case-fic to boot! mycapeisplaid takes pretend-to-be-boyfriends-for-a-case trope and manages to keep it fresh and dynamic, not least of which because of her spot-on dialogue and characterization. Her Sherlock has that wonderful touch of naivete that makes you ache for him without him ever becoming overdone or a woobie, and John is his perfect, down-to-earth, long-suffering, utterly-besotted self. On top of all of the lovely of their interaction is the bonus of a rather interesting little mystery. In short, add wonderful characterization to a solid case-fic base, toss with some brilliantly on-point dialogue and season with an absolutely amazingly awful encounter of Sherlock with a hair salon and feast.
