Title: Triage
Author: scullyseviltwin
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 51,612 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary:

Sherlock’s mind goes exceedingly, devastatingly quiet and gray-blank. When he speaks it’s through a thick haze, it’s through molasses, he’s so disconnected from the words that it may as well be the unconscious shooter speaking.

“It was only a twenty-two,” he says, voice unfeeling and unwavering, as though that makes any sense at all.

Reccer's comments: Hello everyone! This is my second time reccing and I'm so happy to get to share my faves with you guys again, yay. Okay, down to the fic.

First of all, scullyseviltwin is just brilliant and you should read all of her fics, but definitely, definitely read this one first. Her Sherlock in this fic...he's so raw and stripped bare and utterly unprepared for just how much he loves and needs John. The author's use of repetition, especially in the first chapter ("It was only a twenty-two,") is just gut-wrenching and so excellently done, because it puts you right in that numb, aching shock mindset that Sherlock is experiencing, and her masterful command of emotion doesn't stop there. I just love how she illustrates that caring isn't just 'not an advantage', caring hurts and it's paralyzing and Sherlock can't stop regardless. The way he quakes at the responsibility of John's care and how desperately he tries to be worthy of it is just breathtaking. And on the other side of things, her John is just brilliant with just how much he doesn't want to need anyone and how he resents any implication of his own weakness. Fantastic read.
