Hi guys,

Two important archive-things!

1)
I wanted to let you know that 221B Recs has finally left the ever sinking disaster ship that is delicious.
You can now find our archive at pinboard! \o/

We're almost caught up on recs there. February's posts should be up shortly.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to [livejournal.com profile] iamshadow, our tireless archiver.

2)
There've been a number of double recs in the past few months. One reason for this seems to be that reccers can't always find a fic on the spreadsheet, even though it's on there.

Here are a few pointers to help you navigate it:

- Make sure the entire spreadsheet has loaded before trying to search it. You need to scroll all the way down to the end to make sure it is fully loaded. You can sort the entries by author by clicking on the top of the author column (A), then in the top menu click on Data and choose 'Sort Sheet by column A, A-Z'. Do NOT click on Sort Range as that will unlink the authors from the stories.

- If someone has applied a filter to the spreadsheet, it will not display all of the entries. You can tell if a filter is applied because there will be a small funnel symbol at the top of the filtered column. To turn all of the filters off, toggle the funnel symbol in the toolbar menu (second symbol from the right).

Credit for these search tips goes to [livejournal.com profile] swissmarg, who's been kindly archiving things there. A big thank you to her as well!

* ETA: The guidelines page has now been updated to include directions for the search in the spreadsheet. You can also find them on the top of the spreadsheet itself.

Title: End of the Story
Author: faviconkres
Pairing: John/Sherlock, background John/Mary
Length: 54,029 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Post-Reichenbach. The return, the fallout, the pieces you pick up.

Reccer's comments: The angst! Sherlock returns, suffering from a nearly fatal case of foot-in-the-mouth disease. John is hardly better, being congenitally unable to do anything but beat himself up. Together, they are a trainwreck of monumental proportions. Never really able to express themselves in words and unpracticed with each other in the language of the body, it is nearly physically painful to watch them desperately attempt to connect and give the other what they instinctively know they need.

Excerpt... )
There is so much going on beneath the surface throughout this fic. We get glimpses of backstories and motivations like flashes of light through a latticework screen. There are also cases running along beneath everything else, the trundling undercarriage of the story grimly keeping things moving forward while the relationships and the emotional issues pose and smile their fake smiles and jostle against each other in the tired, threadbare compartments above. Mycroft gets his digs in, and Lestrade and Irene both do what they can, but the final destination is entirely up to Sherlock and John.

The author has not put any warnings on the fic (on AO3) other than 'Dark', although I don't really consider this dark!fic. There is, however, infidelity, dub-con, and unnegotiated BDSM, in addition to the usual murder and mayhem, in case any of those are sensitive areas for you.

Title: Cold War
Author: sator_square
Pairing: Mycroft Holmes/Jim Moriarty
Length: 13,100
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Dubious consent, mind games, captivity
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Pre-series, Moriarty knows nothing of Sherlock Holmes. He knows only of Mycroft Holmes, the interfering government official who keeps thwarting his criminal schemes. Having become enamored with his cold, clever enemy, he decides to take him captive instead of killing him.

Reccer's comments: This is a slow burning, disturbing fic which is all the more excellently creepy for being completely canon compliant. I love the author's characterisation of both Moriarty and Mycroft; Moriarty's slightly terrifying, besotted obsession, Mycroft's slowly crumbling resolve, they're both masterfully done. It was especially brilliant how Mycroft was utterly aware of what was being done to him and was still unable to resist, and that just made it all the more compelling to read. The characters we only see glimpses of ring so true too - Sherlock's arrogant presumptuousness especially. An entirely intriguing take on pre-series events.
