Title: you are a paradigm
Author: 1electricpirate
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 10013 words
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC / Harry Potter crossover
Author's summary: Sometimes, only sometimes, when Sherlock is very far away and absolutely guaranteed not to return for at least three hours, John sits on the sofa and lets the tea make itself.
In which John is (reluctantly) a wizard, Mycroft is (apparently) omniscient, and Sherlock is (surprisingly) oblivious.

Reccer's comments:
This is not your standard Harry Potter crossover. There are no late-night escapades around Hogwarts, and only minimal appearances from established Potter characters. Instead, the author has used the world of Harry Potter as more of a backdrop, and it works perfectly. John is a gifted wizard, but chooses to become a Muggle doctor instead, turning his back on the wizarding world. It's a wonderful, different way to explore John's character. The subtle parallels the author draws between the two narrative universes is a joy to read (the suggestion that Moriarty might have put Sherlock under the Imperius curse sent shivers up my spine), and there's also a fantastic twist on Reichenbach. I've always felt that Harry Potter crossovers are made for Mycroft, and although he's only in it briefly, this one doesn't disappoint. It looks like the author might be writing more in the same universe, so this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Excerpt
He never wanted to be special. He never asked to be gifted.

He cannot avoid it forever because it is as ubiquitous as air, but he can choose not to take it for granted. He can choose not to be addicted to the thrill it sends up his spine and through his blood. He can appreciate it from afar, because if John Watson has any one thing, it is self-control.
